Raising Standards- was the theme for this year-s -Giants of Steam- Autumn Gala, featuring no less than four British Railways Standard Class Locomotives along with the popular Hall Class locomotive No. 6989 -Wightwick Hall- and Maunsell Q Class 0-6-0 No. 30541. The Gala also featured the Metropolitan rake of four coaches, Maunsell Carriages dating from 1923-39, Southern Railway designed Bulleid Carriages dating from 1945-52 along with a selection of BR Mk 1 coaching stock and the GNR Director-s Saloon. The weather remained good for most of the day, with the trees taking on an autumnal look the scene was set for an excellent day. Please join me to watch the engines come off shed ready for the day ahead, in this video we cover the whole line and take a look around the beautifully kept stations with their pretty flower beds still in bloom. When I was young
Our family lived one house away from the train tracks.
My mom had 8 children
She was so busy making baby formula, washing diapers and our clothes
Hung the laundry outside.
Cooking cleaning and schoolwork with my siblings.
I and my next door neighbor 2 boys 2 years older than me- we played on the train tracks!
My mom didn-t know.
The train had soot and sometimes the pieces of soot got in my eyes.
I lived on Lockwood Ave Elberon NJ
Later we moved to Deal NJ
A full block away from train tracks but I lost my interest in train tracks but would wave high to the engineers.
Later I would walk from Deal NJ to Elberon NJ to catch the train to Long Branch NJ
I was a nurse-s aide and the train station in long branch nj was across from the hospital I worked at.
I was afraid to drive and didn-t get my drivers license until we moved to Irasburg Vt. I was 23.
This has been a great video love the scenery the people the train whistle and of course the steam.
You made me so happy.
