I see they're still peddling the false Ponderosa Pine information. Ponderosa pine does NOT have the distinctive vanilla/butterscotch smell, or a cinnamon-colored bark - those are Jeffrey Pine indicators. Ponderosas have yellow bark plates, and no bark smell. They are related, so easy mistake. (And no, they don't hybridize)

Hey all sympathies to those who earn a living in the tourist business. I just Came from a very peaceful 2. 5 hr vicarious Norway train ride to here. Primarily because I used to live North of here and wanted to have some memories refreshed. Thank you for the video. Now where I piss in the corn flakes. The comments are ridiculous about defending this poor girl doing her job. The only thing worse than the pat bad jokes that you hear on every tour ANYWHERE are the comments from the other tourists.
Someone mentioned how cool it would be if the verbal presentation could be presented via earbuds. maybe impractical but sure would be nice.

The great journey scenery and surprise UFO sighting makes up for Sierra's obligation to earn her paycheck with incessant chatter. At 54: 41 one distant white glowing UFO orb appears from behind the clouds at the upper left heading left into a thin stream trail which then metamorphoses into two distinct round glowing orbs. The two orbs separate and travel towards the left, then stop and head back to the right before both fading one by one just left of the same cloud base they appeared from. The Rocky Mountain Range up through Wyoming was my favorite vacation scenery from 1965-72.

This Idaho wrangler has ridden the PP Cog railway many times. What's missing on this adventure are videos of the landscape out of the windows! Mountains, valleys, hills and the plains stretching eastward.
And photographers, if you can adjust your cameras so they are getting an exposure reading from the ground, not the sky. Yep, the sky will white out, but the terrain is revealed better. The PP Cog RR is owned by the Broadmoor Resort Hotel in Colorado Springs, and they have decided to rehabilitate the Cog Railway after rumored concerns of abandonment.

I was on top of Pike's Peak back around 1989. I don't recall seeing a rail there then. I remember it was like 85 degrees on the ground and maybe 15 degrees on top, and it was a little harder to breathe. I was fiddling with the radio in the car and picking up FM stations hundreds of miles away. Back then I dont remember any fences or gates either, you could walk where ever you wanted. I came close to falling off (lost my balance) when I tried to walk onto a remote area lol

I was due to take this ride in May 2018 but the train was shut down just weeks before, which was a bit sad as it was one of the reasons I was making the journey from Australia. Fortunately, I managed to hire a car and drive to the top. It was a spectacular drive, a bit scary at times, but even more fortunately, I was spared that terrible running commentary.

I guess I'm the only person not annoyed by the Conductor's commentary? Well, it's a long, slow trip and the scenery doesn't change all that fast, so it's good filler.
Also, note that the passengers are yacking perpetually, so it's not like it would be a quiet trip under any circumstances.

I enjoyed the drivers eye view of the cog train to the top of pikes peak. I have taken the cog train twice, once when I was 14 and then again later with my 1st wife and my kids. I enjoyed the relaxing ride and the view was spectacular. I hope you don't mind that I screen shot a couple views. They were so cool

FYI; Cog Railway is shutdown. The Broadmoor owns it and has said repairs are extensive. They are however going to repair it, and plan to reopen in 2021. Options to the top of Pikes Peak currently are, Guided Bus Tour, Personal Vehicle or Hiking. Call Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce or The Broadmoor for info.
