I rode on the Pacific Surfliners when they were called the San Diegans 7 times. I will be riding the Pacific Surfliner to Oxnard from San Diego on 5/27/2017 to visit in Oxnard & Ventura for the day & will return on the Pacific Surfliner the same day. I will be driving from where I live at in the Loser City Tucson metro area to Chula Vista where I stay at when I'm home in the Civilized San Diego area. Unfortunately there is only the Tri weekly Sunset Limited between Loser City Tucson & Los Angeles so I'm driving to Chula Vista. If we had high speed rail like Japan has, I would be traveling by train 8 times a year to the San Diego area. Train travel is my number 1 choice of travel.

That is correct. 455 has caught on fire several times as well as 451. The factory paint on the Surfliner locomotives was terrible from what I've heard and started to peel off really early in life. Now, all of the locomotives have been through at least one additional paint job. Glad you liked the video, one of these days I'll remake this one with newer video clips.

Thank you very much! When I originally put this video together 7 years ago, I had planned to make an additional one on that part of the route, but unfortunately, I never did. I probably have enough video captured to put something like this together and if there is interest in something like that, I'd be happy to put it together when I have the time.

As a french train engineer, I can only be impressed by these trains. The engine is huge and I just love the paint job.
And the horn sound. damn! I wish we could have this kind of stuff here in France. :-)

PS: by the way, this train is a little bit french. the cars were built by Alstom. ;-)

Cool video, as I love trains! However, I was naturally under the impression you were going to be filming from ON the train, & not standing by the wayside filming as it goes by you. So in that respect, I was a little disappointed.

It depends on what time of year it is. In general, you can even buy the ticket on the train, it's just more expensive. If you buy your ticket 3 or more days in advance, you usually get a pretty good discount.

Thoroughly enjoyable video. Good to see so many locos of the same type, although 455 looked a bit beat up! Do I remember that one of them caught fire and was withdrawn for a while while they made repairs?

Thank you very much! I have video of most of the ride from LA to San Diego from inside the train that I once posted on my old account. Maybe one of these days, I'll get around to re-posting it.

Car and people shall not cross the train crossing when the signal is still flashing. They should wait till red light flashing stops before they can proceed. I see many of them broken the rules. >: (

I love this trip, have taken it several times. This year I am spending the winter in Solana Beach and plan to take many Coaster/Surfliner trips. Good video!
