Continue riding this world renowned train into the Himalayan foothills as we gain height via loops, tunnels and viaducts, many seen from the drivers cab

There is something disturbing about this. It's the transitioning, the giving in to change, the acceptance.
The music, switching from Bollywood style, to what could be Anuska Shankar and friend with tabla.
Only a soul who know the sorrows of the sounds, from a familiar loco, like those in Shimla or Siliguri. The locos change. The music changes. The people change. Each one of us, who watches this, are changed. But the surrounding beauty remains.
You have captured a tremendous emotion, with this. It is healing, and growth.

Hi, as I had filmed almost all of the line from cab, it seemed a shame not share it, especially as the various loops, tunnels and viaducts are best seen from the front. But 5 hours is too much to expect anyone to endure, so I decided to split it into 2 parts speed-ed up by 5 times. I tried 10 x full speed, great for lovers of roller coasters, but too fast to show any detail. I am working on part 3, it should be on You Tube before the end of the weekend, this is my favorite part of the trip.

Thank you, Tim, for Part 2 as well.
How awesome to see close up the ascent up the foothills of the highest mountains on Earth!
I do not recall Solan being such a large town, full of thousands of multi-storied houses covering the mountainside. But that was back in the 1960's and 70's and the population of India has more than doubled since then.
You are so right about this train ride being a life experience - especially after the unbearable heat, dust, crowds and noise of the plains.

Hi J. C, I traveled aboard the 'Himalayan Queen' taking just over 5 hours for the trip. The seats are a little small and not well padded, for me this was not a problem as I was filming from an open door. Some other trains are more comfortable. It is a long time before the first refreshment stop, so it may be a good idea to take a drink with you. This is a wonderful journey, I hope you enjoy it as much as my wife and I did. Tim.

lots of kids either going to school or home. nice to see them in uniforms. an amazing railway. homes range from tumbledown shacks to high rise apartments. pity it was a misty day. as the scenery is amazing to see. the track is well-trodden along its whole length as must be the easiest way to take. that multi-arch structure is amazing.

I can't congratulate you enough Tim. This is better than spoken documentary. The glimpses of life you show from the train show far more than a spoken travelogue. At 73 I like the accompanying music. However you manange to finance this, keep it up please.

Excellent video thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife and I are doing the trip in November, Have you any little bits of advice you could pass on, for instance how long does it take to reach Shimla from Kalka? Many thanks in advance. J. C.

It may be comparatively small but it is NOT a -toy-. Narrow guage is necessary for mountainous winding regions and this railway serves a very real, and necessary purpose.

I don, t understand doesn, t the goverment or the people have any respect for their land-soo much trash strewn around really makes it look bad for their country-wow.

Thank you for taking time to comment, I am enjoying editing the video film I took in India, as I reminds me of the wonderful time I spent there.

Still looking forward to part three. Not keen on the speeded up version although the concept does work for some occasions. Cheers.

Another great cab ride! Its nice to see a line where you can enjoy the journey rather than rush from A to B.
