Aesthetically, they're too busy and thus ugly. The designers were totally ignorant of earlier classics. Remember: a Camel is a Horse designed by a committee.
Did anyone catch the ex-NP Budd diner in one of the trains? They were the last streamlined diners to be built (1958) before Amtrak took over.
BTW-Atk has Chargers running between Vancouver and Eugene on Talgos as well and are allowed 80+mph speeds due to the Talgo's tilt suspension. They are powered by CAT diesels, but the electricals are European. They're just assembled in Sac to avoid import duties.

I cant belive the indian railways bought the bo-bo (6 traction wheels on each side of the loco) configured, borad guage GE locomotives and the GT-46MAC (locally known as wdg4 and wdp4 series) for India.
When, clearly the Siemens diesel and electric locomotives and their traction motors are soo much more effective for passengers transport atleast.
I'm sure Siemens would have offered a bo-bo version which would have been heavier and provided more tractive effort for Indian railways load of 18 to 21 long, boad gauge coaches.

Gave this a fresh watch days ago. Lovely footage. Great loco! But I gather from passengers and news reports, the Illinois Service between Carbondale and Champaign is rife with delays. Pedestrians hit, north of Cdale, at least a couple instances. Cracked rails. CN freight is King of the Rails, because CN owns the line. Trip to Chicago should be 6 hours. It's more like 8 or 9. Hopefully the issues will be addressed. Service between Carbondale and Champaign will be by bus on Jan 22, while the line is further repaired.

Couple things I notice
1st, the electric horn solenoids really cut down the character of the horn
2nd, I thought the engineers protested the strobes, which is why they were removed from the Genesis
3rd, any particular reason they didn-t go with the nose fairing of Brightline?
4th, brilliant video, is there a link to photo equipment?

Nice video! Most people hate the sc44 chargers, but I sort of like them, and their horns are AMAZING! They sort of sound like amtrak 822 in a way. I cant wait to see them going 110 mph on the amtrak wolverine and blue water!

Can anyone offer some justification behind the obsessive horn use? Warning before traversing a level crossing = yes, but every other time just seems to be 'hey look! i have a horn and i'm gonna piss you off with it'

Charger locomotive would be awesome if it had the body of a Genesis locomotive. I just love the look of the Genesis, it looks awesome compared to the Charger which looks like a toy compared to a Genesis locomotive.

I rode a train pulled by one shortly after they were introduced shortly after thanksgiving last year. It broke down at the second to last stop. A brand new locomotive. That was the last time I'll ever use Amtrak.
