I had a 4. 3 in a pick up and it ran great and then it got to a not start and then run. And some things going down the road it would just die. I monkeyed with that for a few weeks it was getting worse I pulled the distributor out and went to my local adventure auto. While standing in line a guy said is that out of a 4. 3 I said yes he said GM has a problem with the distributor on the 4. 3. Something happens inside where it looses the ground in the distributor I put a new distributor on the truck and never looked back. I love your videos thanks for the knowledge

These spider things were 1200, then they were 1600, and I'm imagining 1800.
And I hear it's 250.
What's the deal
There's problem parts available, there's dephi parts available.
You can ask the general.
Pretty scary video because of obvious fuel vapor visible and a lot of it.
Makes you want to ventilate the area and turn on your best air fan.
I wish I had real info nowadays.
We used to replace the whole spider back when Louis was a newbie.

I spit my coffee on the kitchen floor again over Mr. Wiggles tip getting overheated. I'm out of paper towels. Had to use a towel this time. Always good to have a laugh before work. I got a really nice 91 Chevyp/u today brakes and lines and idler arm. Good job no thinking. Getting alot of older iron to work on. I think people are getting over spending ridiculous money on this new junk. I'll work on old stuff all day every day as long as it's pretty clean.

I've had the 'Vid twice myself.
(Once before I was due for my booster, so the vax wasn't worth the card they had me carry for proof)
Anyway, you're a better man than I; I didn't work either time.
EDIT: Thanks for making a video on the ol' Astro. Brings back memories of my '98 AWD. Sometimes I miss that van quite a bit. When I sold it, it frequently wouldn't start on rainy days. (Bad coil pack) But that thing amazed me in the snow.

These were good vehicles, wish they still made them. The earlier TBI engines were nearly bullet proof. I'd still take the spider issues over the timing chain and lifter problems of the more modern engines.
I've still got a 92 Astro, 99 Blazer, and 99 Jimmy. I have far less problems with them than a lot of my co-workers do with much more modern vehicles. When there is an issue i can fix it myself and it's far cheaper.

That injector system kept me busy early in career. Shocked that you are even seeing one of those in NY. I got one back in the day free and bought another for 100 bucks that had a Jasper reman in it that was rotted out and needed brake lines. I pulled the Engine and put it in the freebie that needed a engine. Ex wife hated it but it didn't bug me one bit driving it. It only had the one rear fold into a bed seat in the back.

Knew as soon as it was cylinders 5 and 6 misfiring and thats where the fpr is located on the v6 spider. Just goes to show all the reddit threads that praise delphi and acdelco, you can still get bad parts from the name brand. You can just do the regulator, and i believe you can check if it’s genuine delphi by seeing if their name is stamped where the injectors plug into the spider body.

My Astro van was the worst vehicle I ever owned. I would bet that I removed every single nut and bolt in that thing over the 4 years I owned it. I finally traded it in when reverse stopped working unless the truck was hot and you got lucky. Of course, I backed into the parking space when I pulled into the parking space at the Toyota dealer. That way, they could pull it out to test it.

That thing brings back memories, mostly bad but otherwise it reminds me of the good ole days of smelling raw fuel for 2 weeks after working on one of those beasts. What a design fail, huh! I bet GM still has nightmares over those things. It's good that they are finally disappearing from the public and popping up in the woods as part of the terrain.

Seems rather odd that a customer would have other shops working on their vehicles and then return to good old reliable. My guess here is the spyder is not a real Delphi mainly because Delphi is a major OEM manufacturer for GM. Likely a fake part. Good direction on this. I was thinking a rich fuel issue because it ran better at full beans.

I had a 94 Dodge B250 van and the doghouse was a cinch to pull off. The whole engine was exposed and so easy to work on. I also had a 93 Chevy G20 van and the doghouse was a complete PITA to pull off and even though the whole engine was exposed, GM made the engine cut-out so narrow that it sucked to work on.

I had a 94 Jimmy with the first generation of that fuel injection. I had to replace the FPR/injector assembly. Had rough starting when it sat for a couple hours, but started fine when it was cold.
That does not look like a new injector assembly, or it wasn't done that recently, it seems quite dirty.

Have this same problem with a 1993 4. 3 vortec. Cold start fine hot start extended crank / flooded. Bore scope confirmed excess fuel in the intake. Except 1993 is the early style and you can't get the spider injector anymore. If anyone knows where to get one it would be fantastic if they would share!

I did the spider upgrade on my 99 suburban. The HARDEST part was getting the upper throttle body back on. What should have taken 5 minutes took 5 hours and several breaks. Once I finally used some lube on it, things got working. Story of my life.
You told me I could do it, so I did. :)

I pull my rf seat. 4 nuts tons of room.
1st thing I do with a out any Chevy is change the temperature SENSOR. NOT SENDER.
They can't really be tested.
Scanner will show a reading ok.
For 15 bucks or so, I've fixed a few.
Frankly I always keep a new one ON HAND.

I had a '97 with AWD, hands down my favorite vehicle. However, it was also hands down the worst one I have ever worked on! lol! Sent it to it's final rest at 283k inner-city miles, in Michigan none the less! Love the video, glad I don't have to open my tool box for this one! lol!

We called it the Doghouse at GMC/Cadillac. Still seeing 4. 3 express van roll in needing a spider every 6-12months. Not bad to work on if you remove a front seat, toss a moving blanket in to protect the interior and make yourself comfy

Great video i owned a 1993 astro it was a great vehicle that 4. 3 engine was bulletproof replced the original water pump at about 120k, gifted to a family that both vehicles broke down. They used it for another 10 years! GM don’t do vehicles like that anymore.

There is a later model OEM design FI spider that is better than the 96 and is a drop in replacement (MPFI. Replace the FPR at the same time if the new spider does not have one already. Also, use a new gasket on the seal between the spider and the plastic manifold.

Drove a 4cyl. standard working as an engineer/graphics designer way back when. Spunky little guy. Later bought an '88 from a broke friend. Loved both. People don't part with them down here. They take them up north and sell them for way more money.
