I remember that storm I was hunting in that storm you had to lean forward to walk buddy of mine was using my three Wheeler Big Red and it broke down in Elk Bay where all the Timbers was still good he I got a ride out with an a policeman that hunted it and I had a key to the gate and he wasn't back at camp yet so we were worried his wife was staying in my bus with us so I started walking back up to see if I could find him finally met him on the road the next day it was still blowing like crazy we thought we would be smart and take a shortcut through the timber while big mistake that was tree branch broke come down and hit him in the head and put a good gash in his head that was one wicked storm but I love hunting in the storms on the north end of Vancouver Island while not the north end partway Elk Bay I used to live in Elk Bay three months out of every year did all my hunting did all my fishing crabbing get on my cod loved it down there until they made a public resort then it all went downhill and now there's a house built on the other side of the dry land sort where I shot the biggest deer I've ever shot on this island and I got its head mounted the taxidermist told me I was a liar this deer did not come off of Vancouver Island it was so big neck was huge and I was mad at the taxidermist because it looked like he put my dear on a dough the neck was so skinny and I paid $600 back then to get it mounted that was a long time ago wow good times not so good if you got to live in it though very dangerous

You are living in the wilderness yet you are constantly importing more and more things that you enjoyed in the modern world.
Think of what your home would look like if you had been born in the wilderness to parents who had ALWAYS lived there. Life would be a lot more simple and wants and needs would be way fewer.
That said you and Nichole have created a wonderful living for you and your family in both BC and the tropics.
Do you plan to educate the kids to the ways of the outside world I am a great admirer of the American Indians. Their lifestyle BEFORE their interaction with the white man, to me, was paradise. They lived off of the land and they respected the he land! Their numbers were somewhat limited to the numbers that they could provide for thus minimizing their impact on the environment.
If civilized man could reverse his quest for more technology and revert to a more simple way of life the world would be a safer and more lasting place in which to live.
One more idea and I’ll shut up. IF the collective funds that are spent on weapons of war by all nations were instead pointed at advancing medical issues and reducing man’s environmental impact. Whow! But it will not happen.
Enjoy your time that you have won away from the rat race that most people live in.

Hi Jake and Nicole
I’m Tamara from Shakopee Mn
I’m 61 and take care of my mother who is 86
I’m learning so much from your videos and from uTube about gardening and off grid living
I see in the background you finished your replacement of the wood for your compost
Looks beautiful as does everything you build
I have more recently in the last 10 years started growing some vegetables instead of all flowers trying to be healthier and more self sufficient.
you talked about tomatoes inside the greenhouse and growing some outside
Can’t wait to see if there is a difference in taste
I seen a video that said vegetables that are grown outside vs. greenhouse have more nutrients because of the direct sun exposure
I don’t know if it’s true but kinda does make sense sure would be nice to be a scientist to verify the information
What do you think
Your babies and family are beautiful and fun thanks for sharing

Hello, I live in Montana close to Glacier Park. We are retired now. I'm 71 years old. We built our house in 1996. I traded a guy 40 house logs for and he milled our house out of our trees into rough lumber. We trade time and expense equally. So the lumber in our house cost us $ 100 total. I was like one of the first people in our area to use light forms for the foundation that were made out of foam. We put in ground sorce heat, which was just starting to catch on as a viable heating system. I now own a Woodland mill myself and use it all the time. I bought a book called Back to Basics, and that book helped educate me in plumping and house wiring, water wells, garden design, and land layout. I have never looked back and regretted doing this. Much success to you. You are doing it right.

Jake, you got this man! Im in Maine, my gf and I are in the process of hunting for a property. Like you, I've built all kinds of cool stuff, and your right. Some projects that are really big are daunting to wake up and dive into, putting the family aside to grind on a massive project makes it even harder. I try to focus on the vision of the finished project and all the people that have to tell the story of how we built this thing with our bare hands from a vision we had. Ive seen you two accomplish amazing things! I know you've got this. That container is going to be incredible! Ps. We would TOTALLY use that yurt if you sent it to us. We're dying to get onto a piece of land here. Cant wait to see your progress! Take care!

Don’t listen to those people who say their kids get harder the older they get. I believe it only gets harder for those parents that fail to pay attention to their children and teach them along the way to listen and follow their parent’s directions. You two are going through the toughest age and stage with your children no doubt. Being real, packing the twins around to keeping them happy and entertained time consuming especially when you two have so much to do! It is so repetitive, draining and frustrating, especially when you have numerous things to get done. But these days will soon get easier once their walking and listening and doing as their asked: ) you two seem to be wonderful parents: )

I had twins at 43 years old and they are 12. 5. I wish I had 3 at once. But i do have to say that people loose all social skills when they come upon multiples. And just so you know, each stage is a challenge with twins. You just exchange different types of difficulties and blessings. Even now at 12 there are big challenges, but we are seeing them starting to become their own young men! Wishing you the best!

Hello Jake and Nicolle, I’m watching the replay and I’m from Stratford, ON. Well if I had to do it over again, I would definitely be living off grid like yourself. Hard work never scared me and I respect anyone who has chosen to pursue that journey in life. It’s absolutely true about getting the best advice from someone older than yourself, your a wise man for figuring that out. And FYI love the Star Wars analogy so perfect LOL, also my Chinese animal is the snake. Look forward to watching the next video.

Greetings from Maine
My oldest was 3 when our youngest child, our 3rd was born. 3 in diapers! I was pregnant or nursing for 5 years. The nursing every 2 hous for our oldest premie son was exhausting. I was blessed that our 2nd child was our easiest when she slept through the night very early. She was a primie also. When I stopped nursing our 3rd, and began sleeping all night, my energy returned.
Phew!
Lot's of energy to raise and nuture 3 young children.
I understand.

I’m 69 retired graphic artist female, Atlanta, Ga. I love watching your videos as they are filled with so much valuable content! You are a very talented person and I love the lifestyle you are providing for your family! As for the Yurt, turn it into your enclosed chicken house it would be perfect! You can replace the canvas with wire and metal and it be strong enough that the predators can get in! Recycle the parts like some of the wood and windows!

Hi Jake & Nicole, your family is so cute!
I’m a 45 year old (everyone says I look at least 10 years younger) Mom and live near Ottawa, Canada. I have 2 kids, 10 & 12, I’m actually a twin myself and I have to say that I was so scared that I was going to have twins, I only wanted two kids, I don’t think I could have handled 2 at once!
Looking forward to seeing the evolution of your properties!

Jake and Nicole if you could shorten the videos to about 15 to 20 minutes to one or two tasks such as gardening or building the container. This way you could be putting out a lot more videos and getting more likes in your videos therefore you would be getting more money. The money you could use to build the rest of your home. You should watch the Pethricks.

Keep the yurt, since it's such a marvelous place you've created and your journey all began. Turn it into a play area for your children, a mosquito free zone or during rainy season to have an extra pace to go to or perhaps a meditation sanctuary. endless posibilities really.
