The analogy that the author of this piece is advancing -- that Facebook and China's censorship regimes are qualitatively similar -- doesn't hold up. Facebook is but one of many places online where Westerners can obtain information, each with its own, competing community standards. And it's easy to go outside of FB to examine news, information and discussion sites from around the world. But the Chinese Communist Party has erected a Great Firewall to keep content from most foreign news and discussion sites out. The CCP has a monopoly on news and information within China. Facebook does not. I personally spend only a few minutes a year on FB.

these photos were all banned by facebook because they didnt meet its community standards, but theyre in our video. But now facebook could block our video
uh. its an internet messageboard. you want to make them beholden to some law because they banned some users photos? and by the way, they cant ban your video from anywhere but their own (free) website, so how exactly is that censorship? its called the banhammer
its just a website, calm yourself down. dont like it? just dont type facebook. com and press enter i suppose

also a business that has for whatever reason been gamed to represent the far right by the far right blocking those that oppose them with new ideas. They just get them banned by block reporting of harassment that the algorithm takes are real. All funded by righties in riches. but hey call it liberal(though note not in this piece)

I seldom use facebook nowadays because of the ever growing insecurity in me and fb feeds me more with a lot of stuff to be insecured at. I didnt know however that there are more underlying issues this platform has, especially today as I type as it is involved in a massive privacy scandal. It creeps me out.

I joined Facebook in June of 2017 and I have my family and friends on there. Each day theres new posts and birthdays to celebrate and polls and petitions too. Im still using it regardless of what the future is going to be like. I love coding and I would work for Google or YouTube.

Absolute rubbish. FB is no different from an email and a digital camera. the only advantage is that you can do it from a phone. The only reason its so popular is that its free. and allows people to store photos. It cannot start revolutions
