This story needs farther explanation. Egyptian families are so connected to each other and Independence in such a young age isn't common and they don't support it in this young age because they weren't brought up to be independent yet or leave their parents, even when their children prepare for marriage, their parents help so much in paying and securing their children's marriage preparations so it's out of love, care and worry not controlling. Esraa's mother and brother didn't know how to approach her. I don't judge her in anyway but she could face things differently and understand the reason behind her family's actions instead of blaming religion because religion and especially Islam leaves the freedom to anyone and doesn't judge anyone Islam never banned who doesn't obey all it's obligations Islam never forced anyone to do anything and left everyone to choose for example the reason why she stopped wearing hijab is because she refused to understand the moral behind it and that it's a way to become closer to God she could have known this and read more about the hijab. But she took it as something to control her and something her family obligated. she lost Faith instead of digging deeper and understanding. She is brave no denial but she wasted many years trying to unleash the chains she thinks her family and religion made while she could have chosen peace and communication with others still do whatever she wants. Maybe Western people won't understand it because they know the age of Independence can be since 18 and it's a normal thing and they are prepared for it emotionally so is it for there parents. They accept this because the society offers them decent jobs and affordable rent that make their parents feel less worried about how they gonna live.

She's young and thinks she knows it all. Better to stay comfortably with your family. Be grateful to have them because one day, they'll be gone. To be fair, it sounds like her family was so difficult. They should be flexible a bit while still following the religion so that their children will follow them. No one can live so inflexibly where everything is haram. Islam is easy.

She seems free to me to do whatever she wants. She's out and about doing whatever she wants she even has a boyfriend which is almost impossible in Egypt. She's not even scared to be recording this. She is just trying to play the victim too much. You dont like your family leave simple as.

I am a Coptic Christian and I lived among Muslim Egyptians. I thought Copts were the ones affected most by bombings and discrimination, but it seems that they themselves suffer just as much as we do by their extremist beliefs.
