I'm accused of faking my tourettes - born different

A TEENAGER suffers from Tourettes so badly that she has been accused of faking it. Nicole, 14 was diagnosed with Tourettes aged 13 after her mum, Jodie noticed her face and hand tics had developed seemingly overnight. Her vocal tics developed quickly too, and consist of swearing, screaming and whistling, as well as physical arm movements. In moments of extreme emotions, Nicole can sometimes be violent towards herself, scratching and hitting her head. She explained to Truly: -There are moments where you can be really scared, because you don-t know what-s going to happen, or when it-s going to happen. - Nicole also has FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) which means her arms and feet can sometimes lock if her tics get too overwhelming. Despite her diagnosis, a lot of people have accused Nicole of making up her tics for attention, including close family members, and online commenters

My mum has got FND after banging her head 8 years ago and she almost has tic like fit within her FND. She is fine most of the time other than when she is triggered by certain things like loud noises, temperatures and bad fatigue. Seeing you having something similar really helps me because I have really struggled as young child when she first was diagnosed (paramedics thought she had had a stroke and so was rushed into hospital where she was diagnosed with FND) and as a teenager seeing my mum in pain. Thank you so much for your work Nicole even if you never see this comment.

I'm 16 years old, I don't have Tourette's disorder but I was diagnosed with anxiety & asd at 14&15 and knowing neurological disabilities/disorders are being more recognised and accepted is so warming, I sometimes have the odd anxiety tic if I'm in a busy public place feeling extremely overwhelmed like my heads gonna fly off and some people do stare if I tic and fall into a meltdown but knowing people are becoming more familiar and respectful over these disabilities really boosts my confidence.

I don't even think she's faking it but I also don't believe that she got tourettes over night, right when the TikTok tourette-videos was the most popular.
The mind can do a lot of things but I would like to see where she is in 5 years and if she still suffers from Tourettes, and if she is then I was wrong and I will gladly take that.
As of now, no I don't believe she's a medical anomaly who gets tourettes over night

tourette facts: you can develop them
tourettes is not constant. you can have 2 tics that dont happen every day to have tourettes
you will never know if someones faking cuz its not the same for everyone. so stop trying to fake claim
no not all tics are swearing. thats a specific form of tourettes
little kids can have! adults can have it! any one can have it!

reply

Sweety I believe you have tourettes because your tics are spontaneous and normal flow not exaggerated like another person exaggerated their tics for personal gain. Please if you start getting followers and are able to get some cash from it please don't follow that route and start exaggerating your tics for donations and public attention.

This syndrome is the result of a random chemical unbalance in the brain that cause random movements and random word pronounctions in general but there is no specific spical list of symptoms to it. every humanbeing have thier own brain function that is why such syndromes can be diagnosed but not cured or prejugded

I have Tourettes and I tried explaining them to my friends but they didn-t believe me
They barely see me do it bc I try to control it but most of the time I couldn-t. It-s just flaring my nose and twitching it. I used to make sounds but they changed

I have this this where I get a tension in my body and in order to get rid of it I must shake or clap and sometimes I have to be vocal. I can kindave control it if i really hold it in but it hurts and i dont know what it is can someone please explain

Why are there so many young people getting these seizure based disorders?
Especially in the UK?
I think we are poisoning ourselves or being poisoned by our governments/corporations, just like with child mass vaccinations and autism.

So many get accused of faking Tourette-s Syndrome, just because they think they want attention. It must be a tough life of getting accused and living with this syndrome. You have so much confidence to open up and share with the world:

I don't have tourettes but I have 3 mental disorders. Which are anxiety, bipolar and schizophrenia. and i know how it feels to be accused of being a fake and doing for attention when im not so I can relate to being called a fake

She is absolutely a light on the internet and irl. I adored watching her tics and all. Also, it's so intresting that dancing creates some relief for tics, its so great to have a passion outlet that's beneficial in many ways.

Hi, Nicole, watching a documentary about you on TV here in Germany. You are so a happy, funny, beautiful young woman. Go on like you are showing it on -Unbelievable me-. I love it to see you laughing. All the best to you!

Tourette's is like, being a puppet. But the puppeteer doesn't use you all the time. The puppeteer will give you freedom, but control you unexpectedly. It's like co-existing with a demon for some people.

So you realize that saying the complete opposite of what people would normally expect from you will get people to believe that you really do have Tourette-s when I know you-re faking
reply

I have Tourette-s and am the age now that Nicole was then, it-s hard everyone thinks I-m faking it due to tiktok, it-s really upsetting because I can-t control it and try my best.
reply

i know i have a unknown disorder of some kind and that's how we deal with it we laugh because if we don't we cry and i feel the same as if someone else is taking over my body
reply

I do have to say, SOME of her tics do seem forced/fake.
But it is also VERY hard to tell when a young teen is joking/being silly, and when they are having a tic/seizure.

reply

she seems to genuine to lie about having tourette-s. and idk why someone would want to fake a disorder like this that would just be weird and embarrassing so i believe her
reply

It's just interesting how she didn't tic at all this whole interview. and if she did it was after she completed a full sentence. Not implying anything. just saying.
reply

I have ADHD so I'll get some tiks and stuff and people think it's torettes (idk how to spell lol) but ik it isn't but they still think it is for some reason
reply

i want to like watch people with tourettes cause i have tics as well but i dont know about anyone else but seeing someone else have tics set mine off
reply

People shouldn-t be assuming you-re faking it because they don-t know you or your life. Evan if there are people people who fake it.
reply

I-m wondering if something traumatic happened and no one actually knows about it, Tourette-s can be brought on by stress & other things.
reply

Back in the dark ages ppl probably would have thought shes possessed by a demon and pour holy water n exorcise her. Poor girl.
reply

my sister has tourettes and i do too and everyone says ur faking ur not smart enough ur just underdeveloped bc or my tics
reply

i beleive you poor baby so sad that you have no choice in this but is there a m
edicine meds that you take from doc

reply

Why does it seem like mostly younger girls who have this? Am i wrong or are girls more likely to have this?
reply

When I try to hold my ticks, it-s just hard because the pressure feeling is so strong that it gives me headaches.
reply

honestly it's really sad, like so many people fake Tourettes, it's so hard to know who actually does have it.
