Teri, who is 25 and lives in Newcastle, Australia, was born with a condition called Incontinentia pigmenti, which affects the skin, nails, teeth and eyes. At first, Teri experienced skin lesions, but then things took a drastic turn at the age of 16, as the retina in one of her eyes detached. Whilst going through an unspeakable amount of pain, it took over 10 years to get her eye removed and Teri claims it to be the -best thing- she ever did. After her procedure and with a new -twinkle- in her prosthetic eye, the high-spirited Aussi sought out others who had the same condition online and expressed how -amazing it feels to be different in a group. - This sense of community encouraged Teri to start posting about her condition on TikTok, with her very first post catching the attention of 10 million viewers. Although there are many incredible things she can do with her prosthetic eye, such as, mastering the art of doing her makeup with both eyes closed, she has also achieved her main goal of feeling more confident within herself whilst having IP

That was hilarious, when you took your eye out and it fell and you said, huh. I laughed out loud which I rarely do! Thanks for sharing! You are wonderful for sharing and being so open about this! My son was born with Coloboma in both eyes, which could have been worse - born without eyes. By the grace of God, although he is legally blind in one eye as he's missing 1/2 of that eye, he can perfectly see out of the other even though he is missing 1/3 of that one. God is good all the time; all the time, God is good!

Oh my god, I can-t explain how happy I am to have found this video. I was also born with IP, though my eye didn-t have to be removed. It simple didn-t connect during birth, making me blind in one eye instead. It feels amazing to know people out there share this with me, since I sometimes feel alone and sad about my eye and my condition. Though it wasn-t as serious, I can-t put into words how amazing I feel rn. Thank you for posting about this and making people like us feel better about ourselves: )

-She hasn't looked back. - Well she can't can she?
And yea, I know she has one eye left. I hate when people say I have no leg. I do have one leg. That's less than most but more than some. Though I have trouble getting off on the right foot I can still dance. Well except that one time my prosthetist made a mistake and attached a left foot onto my prosthesis. Boy was that ever a disaster.

Ngl, if I had a prosthetic eye like her, I would also be popping it out like that. 1) I would do it to to get reactions from my kid/friends, cuz I'm a turd like that lol, and 2) How better to educate people? I fight an invisible disease every day of my life. I can't just -show- someone that I'm different, but that it's ok to be like this.
Mad respect for this lovely woman.

Wow, she is so inspiring! I really admire her resilience - what easily could have been a setback in her life (could you imagine losing your eye) yet she persevered and is now shining. This really touches me because I'm going through a rough patch at the moment due to health/injury and this was a reminder to keep going. Thank you Teri for sharing your story! x

I can-t imagine being in so much pain that I would want a doctor to remove my eye just for relief. I-m so glad that you found someone who was willing to help you and that you are no longer in that kind of debilitating pain. You must be an incredibly strong person, and I-m proud of you even though we-ve never met. Keep spreading awareness about your condition: )

Ant & I met you at your sister's wedding, you and your family are a credit to each other, so loving and supportive of all of your goals in life. Congratulations Teri on your success after finding the right medical team, you are an inspiration and make me feel inadequate with your ability to encourage others with any issues they encounter. xoxo Danny & Anton

Oh lordy. I'm just thinking about what it feels like to even just have something in my eye and how terrible that feels! Bless her! My childhood best friend had a glass eye. She had some kind of melanoma cancer which is why she had to have it removed. I personally thought it was cool to see her take it out and freak the other kids out lol!

Your an inspiration letting nothing stand in your way, as for negative comments on social media. it's them that have the problem they have a choice to watch you or not and they choose to watch you and have a go at you. brain transplant springs to mind. You go girl you've given yourself a wonderful life and future xx-

I grew up with a great friend with a prosthetic eye. He never took it off around me but I was warned about it anyway just in case he got hurt somehow whole playing around. I never noticed that he made anything different from me at all.

I've had a prosthetic since birth for my eye ( I had microphthalmia. My eye was removed later) and everyone I've run into thinks it's gross so I hide it. Even my own family. My parents were pretty much it growing up.

honestly, if i had a missing eye, i would just go around with an eyepatch, i think it looks very cool (obviously i don't want that to happen to me) but ina parallel universe, i'd be wearing a black pirate eyepatch

I'm lost my vision in my left eye because of diabetic retinopathy and some days the eye pain is unbearable. I never knew going blind was a painful thing to experience until now.

I'm glad you were finally able to get your eye removed and could get relief from such horrible pain. I love your positive outlook and how supportive your family is.

It's awful that doctors wouldn't remove her eye sooner. It wasn't gonna get better and it was causing her pain so why keep it?
reply

please don't wash the eye with tap water! Not a good idea! it should not have taken 10 years to do, if caususing constant pain!

I'm in early stages of retinol Detachment and my left eye I'm so petrified of the surgery they said it is very very painful

I need to know where she got those earrings! My ears are stretched to about that size and those are gorgeous!

It makes me so angry that they made her wait to get the eye removed even though she was clearly suffering.
