Using an extra do - Learners' Questions
video description
You said: despite it being dangerous, I do love snowboarding.
What I learned is that we use a noun phrase after ' despite' don't we?
For example I can say: despite the bad weather we were playing football. We can't say: despite it was raining we were playing football can we?
In your example, why didn't you say: despite being dangerous I do love snowboarding.
' despite' in such uses is a preposition isn't it? It is not an adverb.

Thank you, Dan. :-)
You and the rest of BBC learning English team do a great job. You really do. You are smart, you are full of energy, you are flexible and ready to learn new teaching ways.
Romans 2:21:
do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself?...
Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself?...
Way to go! And may Jehovah bless you! :-)

Hello Dan
You're very good at imitating old English gossip... This Do as an emphasis is very convenient because, when I speak in the passive, if I don't know the passive of an irregular verb, I can say : Yesterday, I did lie ...instead of Yesterday I lay....Am I wrong ?

She does look beautiful with her hijab!
I did enjoy the karaoke with my friends last month.
Well, I don't like playing football so much, but I do like watching it.
Do come in. Do have some tea and biscuits.

Pretty helpful! Thanks a lot! But when do we use 'not' instead of 'don't'? For example: I not enjoy beeing puked in the eye...? Is this possible?
