A group of canoeists have reason to believe the healthy seal population is attracting ferocious Great White Sharks to British waters. Interesting video from BBC wildlife show 'Sharks: Great Whites in Britain? '

def not a great white in the Hebrides far too far north for them no great white has ever been recorded that far north if there are any great whites in uk (which is doubtful as always turns out to b a porbeagle or basking shark being misidentified) waters it will bee of the south coast most likely cornwall in summer due to the gulf stream. but i doubt great whites are visiting as if they were with the amount of fishing vessels in uk waters one would of been captured in nets or long lines by now

You all so funny. for a Australian who has swim near load of shark as a kid and adult. even in Australia where we basically live in the water there not many attacks. and we have more sharks then ever. you can swim with a great white as long as he has had his tea God the same with all sharks. but I can tell you there are no great whites in English waters. thay are very sensitive to cold water as it uses all there energy up. sorry guys

You Know Ive actually been out to the Farallon Islands 27 away from San Francisco, Ca before in the years of 2004, 2008, And Even 2013 And never once did I ever notice nor see any Great White Sharks Out There Roaming Around And Searching And Looking For Northern Elephant Seals their Preferred Prey items In the water going from Early September To Early December!

This is so pathetic. The shark was 50 yards away, there's no way of telling what species it was. I garuntee it was a basking. Not only that but theres loads of others it could have been.
I swear as soon as a British person see's a shark fin they immediately assume its a great white and it wants to kill them. Grow up.

Of course it was a Great White. Perfect conditions for them. The only reason you don't hear so much about them is because no one SWIMS IN SUCH COLD WATER so no attacks. doesn't mean they're not there! That is NOT a basking shark dorsal. They're definitely there in British waters. No reason for them not to be.

It's not a basking shark fin coz the video is a reconstruction. There's no reason white sharks can't be in British water there's a food sorce for them n the conditions r good. I personally would welcome them, they're amazing creatures!

Don't tell them that for Christ sake, why don't you think they tell them about aliens and UFO's, can you imagine, oh GW's are swimming around the UK, bloody hell the beaches would be deserted, not that they are full anyway. lol
reply

1) why didn't the shark investigate the kayaks as most great whites hunting would?
2) why wouldnt a hungry great white eat the seal rather the just bite it in half and leave it?

reply

There are no great whites in the UK. Probably a basking shark at best. The brits wouldn't know a white shark if they were looking at one. The U. S has the white sharks.

What a load of bollocks youre talking there are plenty of people doing watersports in the UK and too cold to swim? Yeah alright mate, what a donut!
