Friendly rumblings from two families of elephants indicate they are happy to join up and roam the plains together. Christine: Shame to think that at the beginning of the 1900's there were an estimated 12 MILLION elephants roaming throughout Africa (other searches estimate 3-5 million. Today, due to poaching and loss of habitat through human settlement and industry, their numbers are reduced to a mere combined total of 415, 000. That's Savannah and forest elephants. Loss of habitat also means loss of food sources, which means that 'conservationists' cull whole herds at times to maintain the sustainability of the Savannah.
