Today, we-re moving on from game consoles to talk about a bigger shift that was happening in the gaming industry. In the mid 2000s, we saw a proliferation of Internet accessible devices and with them gaming would expand to a new audience. We-re going to talk about two types of games that are found on these devices, social and mobile games, which together we-ll call casual games. Now, the definitions of these terms can get a little muddy, as they-re continuously evolving, but largely what was seen in the industry was a widespread adoption of asynchronous, socially driven gameplay. These changes spurred the industry to change its profit model, and by 2015, these casual games now make up nearly half of all video game industry revenue. And with their easier mechanics, lower price point, and social component these casual games helped integrate gaming into our daily lives like never before. I think it's a bit misleading to imply that there was a lot of careful thought put into Angry Birds & Farmville. More like they put more work in researching what's already a good idea and marketing it better. For all their popularity, both were found to be direct copies of other lesser known mobile games. I mean, I would forgive all this if they were games at least a few years old, but they straight took ideas of games that were competing at the time.

Boy do I remember Flappy Bird back in 2014, everyone at school would play it. I-m tired of the clones too. I can-t download it anymore from my downloads page since it-s not supported on iOS 11 and higher.
I-m worse when it comes to buying gems on Clash of Clans, I would for months buy whole chests of gems for $99. 99
Speaking of slot machine, think why their throughout Sonic the Hedgehog is a reminder that-s how SEGA started out back in the day.

Mobile gaming is like the 1983 Video Game Crash resurrected.
People suckered in to playing them, tactics to nab as much money and the shitty clones of popular games.
The app store/playstore is filled to the brim with clone games.

Watching this while playing Akaseka. Japanese -casual- games are the worst for my wallet. Nothing casual about them when you have to play non-stop and spend money in order to rank during events like in LLSIF or Enstars.

Most frequent mention of PC titles, and it's the casual games episode? And right before an episode on MMO's? So. are we just not worried about timeline anymore?
Other than that, great episode. :)

Came to complain about the misinfo re: -MUDs, - but started cracking up so hard when I heard No Man's Sky mentioned that I forgot what I was gonna say

Have they done an episode on visual novels and otome games yet? I think it would be funny hearing a guy talk about them. -
