Today we-re going to finish up our unit on data visualization by taking a closer look at how dot plots, box plots, and stem and leaf plots represent data. We-ll also talk about the rules we can use to identify outliers and apply our new data viz skills by taking a closer look at how Justin Timberlake-s song lyrics have changed since he went solo. We scraped our Justin Timberlake song data from lyrics. com. If you're interested in how we did it or would like to try out the code on a different artist, check out our code on GitHub: DISCLAIMER: Please be respectful to lyrics websites when scraping data. I really appreciate this course! And I love Adrian's style of presenting. Also, her voice is really agreeable and soothing, and her diction is phenomenal. Thank you so much for putting this together!

I'm still trying to understand here, can anyone help me?
How could a data point be outside of the box plot's fences when the fences are the maximum and the minimum data points out of them all?

reply

At 4: 39 the graphics misrepresent what was said about the fences. It appears that the IQR X 1. 5 stretches from the end of the IQR box and not the median line as described.

Thank you Crash Course for helping me with my undergrad research so I don-t have to take another statistics course. This is helping me process and analyze my data.

Isn't the death statistic about the number of people killed by sharks skewed by all the people who die who never enter an area they could be killed by sharks?

It hadn't quite occurred to me that, as someone who is v distracted and usually has 50 tabs open, I could be the outlier in someone's data on 'time spent': D

If she wasnt reading a script and actually thinking about the stuff she said, she would not be out of sync with the learning process of the listener.

Can someone explain the chewing gum stem & leaf? Why do we have separate same number stems (like 0-2 and 0-5, 8, 9 but not 0-2, 5, 8, 9?
reply

As a future psych major, statistics methods is a mandatory course and I'm pre studying it. I'm terrible with math and I'm already hating it.
reply

The cumulative frequency graph seems like a confusing graph that your reader has to fully expect and understand how to read.
