The Presocratics: Crash Course History of Science #2 Adgomen: Hello everyone who read this. I have been trying to find the answer to this question, yet, it evades me. There is a book called Die Fragmente der Vorsokratiker (Fragments of the presocratic, it is a collection of fragments of students of the presocratics who talked about or quoted their teachers, this was done because many of the books written by the preseocratic philosophers were lost, but the books's fragments are in greek. I do not speak greek, but I want to learn, the probles is that I don't know whether the fragments are in ancient greek or modern greek. If anyone knows the answer to this and could tell me, I would be forever grateful. DGTBA.

Anaximenes certainly belongs in the Milesian conversation. Whereas his teacher, Anaximander, thought -the archae- was Apeiron, Anaximenes proposed that it was aer, or air/breath/wind/mist/etc, arguing that condensation and evaporation taken to extremes could explain its transformation into fire, water, or earth. This was significant in that it was the first scientific theory that made an effort to propose an entirely natural causal element, using only things that they had evidence existed. As far as there is textual evidence to support, he was the most sophisticated thinker of the Milesians.

And what confounded them, goes on to this very day; somewhat stretched out. I picked up a book
in school on the pre socratic's that
interested me more than any of the ancients. They're a magnificent read, don't pass them
up if you're beginning a look into
philosophy -
And don't say anything to America,
but do not pass up eastern wisdom, colossal mistake.

Uh. Democritus is a presocratic philosopher and he's actually younger than Socrates. The term doesn't refer to philosophers that -lived before Socrates- but to an attitude - philosophers that investigate the essence of nature, rather than human nature, which is the case in Democritus.

This is awesome! I learn a lot as well as it reminds me a lot about the presocratics. Democritus state that atom is made up of everything. I always heard atom but l didn't actually know who discovered atom- thanks for this vedio.
I'm looking for the next video

Presocratic philosophers = Ancient Egyptians. They taught Pythagoras and wrote oldest geometry and algebra problems known to man.

Milesians, or at least Thales, shouldn't be described as strictly materialist because he did not believe matter was all there is.
