In which Mike Rugnetta continues our unit on pantheons with the complex Indian pantheon, focusing on stories that were written in Sanskrit. We start with a violent creation story. We talk about the concept of Brahman, and the personification as three deities: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Then, the goddess Durga teaches us how to behead a buffalo demon while riding a lion

I don't know all the different versions of Durga's story but, there is more preface than that. The one that I heard is the following:
There was a king that prayed to Shiva asking for a boon to not be able to be killed by a man and a boon so that if his blood drops onto the ground he lives. So when the king goes rampent, Shiva, Vishnu and Bramha ask their wives to defeat them. So Lakshmi, Parvati, and Saraswati (wife of Bramha and goddess of wisdom) make Durga. Durga gets a tiger that drinks the blood of the enemy while Durga kills him.
Also Shiva usually is giving boons and fulfilling wishes of people who really pray to him, but he is also very scary when you anger him.
The three gods, Bramha, Vishnu, and Shiva are (from what I heard) represents life. Really, Hinduism is like a metaphor for everything. Also, I have noticed that in the begining (like theme song thing) you wrote that Rakshas are like vampires. They are actually demons or monsters not really vampires.

Narrow view of Hinduism, it is way more than some mythology which western minds would never interpret, these mythologies help the Hindus to remember the values and ways to lead life by examples and stories. Killing of the buffalo demon by Durga signifies triumph of good over evil and demonstrates women as the ultimate power and saviour. It is a 5000 old religion which still exists unlike other mythologies like Norse, Greek and Roman and teaches the way to lead life and embedded to Indian culture. This religion gives the freedom to chose your God in any version you like. Do some research before posting such videos.

The linga is a form it does not mean a phallic symbol. Linga refers to a form. The form of the universe. Usually Lingas are stones that are naturally formed u could have forms that do not at all look like the classic linga and yet they are the form of Shiva. For example BhimeshwarMahadev was a pot concecrated upside down by bhima to represent Shiva. So the linga is a form and not a phallic symbol. Durga was sent as an avatar of sati or Parvati. Given powers by Vishnu and Shiva.

everyone: shiva the destroyer
me: He is the sweetest and innocent God and yes he destroys too when things get bad and sati, kali, parvati, etc are Avatar of one goddess(wife of shiva)

no one worships Bhrama ji because he laid eyes on her own creation and then shiva and Vishnu punished him that no one will worship him. thus there is only one temple of Bhrama in India.

You are funny, -bro here people have left and sacrifice a lot for knowledge spiritual and stories are too. Large to summarise in crash course although good effort anyway - just close your eyes and listen to your voice, that voice that hmmm. inside you is lord in the Vishwaroopam form everything start from him and comes back to regenerate and if not regenerate then dissolve in the lord.

Indian Mythology is mesmerizing, but at the same time, it is important to focus on how how it treats its women. Like in Mahabharata and Ramayana, women characters have been really important in the narrative. Many have been described as essentially evil like Simhika, in Ramayana. Hanuman killed Simhika on his way to Lanka. Find out more from INDIAN MYTHOLOGY IN MODERNITY EP 6

One of my favorite videos on the internet. Very nice to hear the stories which my Grandfather used to tell me as a kid from a western and educational point of view. I will like to appreciate the Crash course for the great content they bring for us and the platter of knowledge in witty yet fun to watch videos. Thank you and keep it up.

Cool video but you should try to be a bit more respectful. The way you explained Shiva's wife was not accurate. Also it was very inappropriate when you said -even gods have beef- at. 2: 36 and multiple other points in the video. Cows are sacred in hinduism and Nandi (cow) is the vehicle for Shiva.

There is a huge difference between Brahman and 'God'. Brahman is all pervading. It exists within everyone, every animal and even dust. God is a creator who is more close to Brahma. Brahman is not the creator. Brahman is the universal consciousness and in turn creation itself.
