Poor Unfortunate Theater: Crash Course Theater #48

Poor Theater and Theater of the Oppressed were two sort of concurrent movements that shared some of the same aims. Jerzy Grotowski's Poor Theater eschewed the use of lighting, props, costumes, makeup, and many of the other trappings of rich theater. Augusto Boal's Theater of the Oppressed in Brazil challenged the ideas of how plays were written and performed, and blurred the lines between actors and audiences

Hey Crash Course-
I was wondering if you guys could maybe start a series on music theory. It would be nice to have for musicians wanting to improve their work. It could cover topics such as chord progression, scales, Minor/Major. etc. -
If you read this comment please consider, and thanks for taking the time to read it. Keep up the good work.

I'm looking at this at 7: 00, and. they HAVE a set, they HAVE props, they HAVE costumes, they HAVE music, and most importantly, the have a script of some sort, so they HAVE a text. So all these things he -removed- from theater weren't removed at all. Is -Poor Theater- anything more than a lie then?

i think crash course should do an Australian history series because for most of the world, even Australians don't know too much about it. by history i mean the 60, 000 year history of the Aboriginal people not just the history of when white men landed

I'll admit, most of the theater movements that have been covered in this series really haven't interested me all that much. However, the idea of forum theater has definitely piqued my interest. It seems like such an enlivening concept.

Another video on theater. Another video which reaffirms my distaste for theater. If theater is as Mike presents it, then I have little interest in anything more modern than Shakespeare, and even less respect.

I must applaud Mike for pronunciation of Polish names. Very good indeed.
Also, I got immensely and inexplicably excited when I heard Mike saying name of my little hometown lol lol.

I-m confused, so poor theatre is theatre without text, costumes, lighting effects, sets, props, and music, but the play of acropolis has music, costumes, sets and special effects?

This has been super helpful, i didn't understand a thing but now i know most! thank you i'd call you a Prof.
i got 92% on my test because of you! based on Grotowski

Now I know what all those parodies of the -new- theater was all about. It seems like a cross between improvisation and just bad writing. And there is no point to it.

I enjoy theater and have been involved in it, but the pretension and claims of exalted aims gets to be a bit much after awhile. That goes double for preachy theater.
