The Renaissance was a cultural revitalization that spread across Europe, and had repercussions across the globe, but one smallish city-state in Italy was in many ways the epicenter of the thing. Florence, or as Italians might say, Firenze, was the home to a seemingly inordinate amount of the art, architecture, literature, and cultural output of the Renaissance. Artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo daVinci, Sandro Boticelli, and many others were associated with the city, and the money of patrons like the Medici family made a lot of the art possible. Today you'll learn about how the Renaissance came to be, and what impact it had on Europe and the world. Kat: It is really cool to see Crash Course -grow up- with me. I first started watching CC World History as an AP Student, and now watch Chemistry and Biology as a college student. I am watching European History just for fun/gaining some knowledge. Maybe we can see an African or South American History in the future! (Took African History for fun, very interesting and eye opening course).

Typical self-superiority looking down his nose and trying to deligitimize anything noble that was attached to Europeans. In this way, he feels superior to everone who existed in the past. Even twists around the money not hoarded by the wealthy or used for their own personal lavishness and instead spent a lot of it to improve public places and buildings and living spaces and then he stuck his own arrogant nose high in the air to find a way to condemn them. In doing this, he believes his virtual signaling will allow him to not only perch far above others simply through condemnation but also help guarantee peaceful living among his fellow haters.

I like the ending reflection/lesson. I think in times of despair or supposed degradation we tend to look at certain periods of the past as better. In fact it took ages for them to get there capitalizing on slowly and arduously built tech that we today inherited. Its easy to glorify something unfamiliar because we didn't share the pain and effort that eventualized it.

If you will write me another novel as good as The Fault in Our Stars, you are welcome to all of my ducats. Also my Dukats. Sadly, I have none of either. Though I suspect if you wrote such a novel, someone might make you a more serious offer for it, which is good because I can-t afford to pay you what they would. And then I would still get to read it.

my first crash course, enjoying this as both entertainment and info during Corona. Question if it gets through. not much yet on Crusades? From school I thought very important at lots of levels for Europe/Asia. I know the main ones took place before the main coverage of this course, but even so.

Comparing John Green 7 years back in US history, it looks like he became old very fast in the past years. The smile is still warm but less energetic. Kinda concerned.
Still love the course he provides. Hopefully he's doing well.

I LOVE John Green and yes, I too noticed the speed and tone of this video changed. Hey John is more mature now, ok. BUT if you miss the speed, do what I did and change the video speed to 1. 25 hehe

the reason people dont paint neo-classical monuments is because of white supremacist ideas of -white- people being better so they used white marble to show that. although we know thats not true.

An Open Letter to John Green: Please go back to the way you used to film your earlier versions of Crash Course History, Sincerely, a long time fan.
