Britain had already started to create a programme of looking after its citizens before WW1 - mainly due to the Rowntree report (Rowntree happened to own Rowntrees confectioneries) which identified the 5 giants. I believe it was started under the liberal government of Lloyd George, based on the German model at the time. This was later build upon by the post-war labour government which did set up the NHS and build upon pensions, education standards (ie leaving age) and working conditions.

I agree with governments sponsoring programs which improve the lives of citizens, such as improving education, but there needs to be a middle ground. Too little aid would be bad for a country and it-s citizens, and too much government sponsored healthcare and other programs would lead to a rise in taxes, hurting the people you-re trying to help, and make people become lazy. That is what-s happening in Europe, and depending on which politicians are elected, in America.

So does the app better on some phones than others? Everytime I tried to load, my phone doesnt allow me too, that it's not compatable. My husband and I have been looking at getting new phones anyways, so maybe if anyone has feedback, it might help me decide what to look for. I love this show, i learned alot more from this than i ever did in high school, or college even before dropping out. I never liked history until I watched this show.

At this point it's just an embarrassment that the United States doesn't have a national health service like the UK. It really is sad that forty thousand people die in the United States every year due to lack of healthcare. It's a national embarrassment and calling anybody who wants one a radical just shows how under educated Americans are. I love my country but I love it so much to tell it when it's wrong.

I could be wrong about this, but didn-t Camus specifically say he was not an existentialist, but an absurdist? (Meaning that there is no reason to be found in the universe, and that we should just embrace the absurdity) Idk maybe I-m nitpicking, but this type of philosophy interests me a lot, so if anyone has studied this topic in detail, I-d love to hear about it

It-s interesting how the same things happened in the east and west. In the east collective farms where similar to the massive corporate farms in terms of pushing out small farmers and changing the economy. The growth of new industrial cities. On and on. Shows how much of change is driven by technology not just the economy.

After the War, the basics of the economy was high taxes for the rich, and investing that money to services for all. Result: economic growth at levels unseen ever before or after, a 30-year Golden Age. Coincidence?

De Europese Gemeenschap voor Kolen en Staal
That's the Dutch (thus Flemish) translation for The European Coal and Steel Community. Personally, I find that even less inspiring than the English term.

I like how the series brings up coca cola but fails to mention that it was sold to nazis under a different brand name. I feel like that is an important fact which was not addressed properly

Everybody is kind of excited by the -right to exists- quote. I find it really cringey, kind of like something from the cult of mao. Really some OJ and milk made you feel worthy?
