Ladybugs may be the cutest insects around, but they don't start off that way. Also called lady beetles or ladybirds, they pop out of their eggs as prickly mini-monsters with an insatiable hunger for aphids. Once they've bulked up, they transform, shedding their terrifying looks, but keeping their killer vibes

I remember seeing the larvae of ladybugs the first time. Just had my first garden and I had no clue what kind of insects they were. Then I saw them eating aphids, and knew they were o. k, and bought a book about insects.
In the garden I observed also that at one moment there are lots of aphids and a week later they are gone. The new generation of ladybugs arrived! Never sprayed against the aphids, just waited for the lieveheersbeestjes (sweet lord bugs, as they are called in Dutch.

Ladybug larvae have no qualms about tasting people. They are everywhere in my front yard for most of the summer and all the time I feel an itchy stinging sensation and I look and it is usually a ladybug larvae having a snack. The aphids themselves will also have a taste!

I get hundreds of ladybird larvae in my garden every summer, I've been contemplating on whether to build a bioactive set up and purchasing a good quality camera to get some footage but I already get enough of them entering my bedroom window and crawling all over the walls

I've always loved insects and them especially. That happiness when you see that round bright red, sometimes orange or black, insect and it's so cute. It would mostly eject a strange smelling orange substance to repel me and actually, Asian invasive ladybugs bite!

A familiar scene, on second thought, it's bizarre, as a predator & preys side by side peacefully, as if menace was non-existence! An easy life for both of them! On third thought, is that lack of defensive instinct a sort of side effect being clone?

Two things: I always wondered what those little black and orange crawlers were. All my life until now! Secondly, the one aphid that gets it rear end sucked dry and chewed off just kinda looks at the camera like Well what the heck do I do now?

I had one of their larvae sneak into my bathroom to change to an adult, it was quite an experience. Managed to catch em after they started being active as an adult. I hope they found a mate and lived good when I let them go.

Ladybug
A small speckled visitor wearing a crimson cape,
Brighter than a cherry, smaller than a grape
A polka-dotted someone walking on my wall
A black hooded lady in a scarlet shawl.

This is why pesticide shouldn't ever be used and why learning to live with nature is, well, the most natural thing. Farmers that don't use pesticide are those who should be listened to and respected highly.

When I was a kid, I used to call the larve alligator bugs and I used to think the pupae were sick lady bugs. I learned not too long after that they were just the stages of their life cycles.

I was todays age now knowing that ladybugs go through metamorphosis like butterflies unbelievable, guess Ive missed the school project to raise them lol, thank you very much for the cool vid!

My mom loves ladybugs, and I'll never forget when she brought in some flowers and saw a larvae. She thought it was gross and tried to squish it. I told her it was a baby ladybug and she felt so bad

I knew about Ladybug pupation, but I'm surprised to learn that they use the same food source throughout their lives. Often, insects who pupate shift diets between life-stages. Very cool.

I had hundreds on my cantaloupe this year because of aphids. But fall is coming and I had to clean up I feel so bad and tried to save as many as I could but some went to compost what do you do!

Ladybugs remind me of my childhood, spending my vacation in the countryside. It was the only crawling thing I wouldn't be afraid of. As a kid, I was always fascinated by its beauty.

It was so awesome seeing the ladybug at the end on native milkweed! I have so much Narrowleaf milkweed which also comes with aphids so I naturally get a bunch of ladybugs too!
reply

The first time I saw one of these eventually hatch into a Ladybug as a kid it blew my mind.
The young just look like such a different type of bug all together.

And some species of Ants protect Aphids because they don't eat them, instead milking them for the dew drops they produce. They will merc ANYTHING that threatens their cow-bugs!
reply

We had a milkweed plant in our front yard and it was so nice to see many ladybugs chewing on the aphids on it. Didnt know they can eat up to 5k aphids in their lifetime.

I was at recess in elementary school when I first discovered ladybugs could fly. A couple of minutes after that I also discovered they could bite.

Aphids really have it rough between being enslaved by ants, devoured by ladybugs and of course every gardener under the sun wanting to kill them
reply

i actually didnt know ladybugs go metamorphosis too, now its kinda cool and makes sense that hawkmoth has a beef with ladybug, both are similar bugs
reply

As a kid I always wondered what these were cause they were one of my favorites, I'm just now realizing they were ladybugs this whole time
reply

This was so cool, I never knew ladybugs pupated or what they looked like as youngsters. I love watching Deep Look, keep them coming!

Just AWFUL Luminar advert. The music is so loud, rythmic that you cannot concentrate and understand what is being shown. Mindless.

As an owner of a garden if I spot a ladybug I try to persuade it to get on my plants. Please be my guest and save my poor roses XD
