With rows of Dr. Seuss-like flowers hidden deep inside, the corpse flower plays dead to lure some unusual pollinators gl3nda: In Bangladesh, we eat a very related species of the same genus called elephant foot yam. It produces flowers like this but shorter and a little bit different with the same smell and produces exactly the same looking berries. We eat the corms of this plant like taro. It has a gigantic root similar in taste to the potato.

Researched this flower for a book a few years ago. Got to see one not far from me in Florida. Literally missed it opening by a half hour! Booo! I got a pic with it though. Didn't smell closed and it was way taller than me.

Im sorry but thats NOT female or male inside of it. Thats parts of mouth and does traping of insects. I think its better to give sumatran locals to recognize their ovvn uniquie plants with their ovvn native's tounge

I didn't know flowers can smell so bad like a dead animal
But I still wander why it is mostly girls that are attracted to flowers because some boys might be smelling a bad smell from flowers

After smelling durian, which the media depicts as one of the most atrocious in the world, I now have doubts if I believe what they say about the odor of this flower.

The houston natural history museum has one of these! They stink even when it's not in bloom, not as strong of course but it definitely causes discomfort.

I love how that corpse flower began to wilt near the end of this episode. Some of you may not understand it, but to me, this is the plant's final bow.

I see one of the flowers don't smell it cuz they smell like rotten cheese and dead rat in the wall and it smells like stinky socks at the end

The fact giant flowers smell like rotting carcasses is pretty interesting, Now what's the biggest flower with actual GOOD smell; /

probably cause it is a meat plant, but they lack proper animal functions and so they smell diseased (and it might be)
