This video guides you through the basic operation of a chiller, making use of animations, illustrations, 3D models and real world photographs to help build your HVAC understanding. This covers the basics of a air cooled chiller in a typical office building. By the end you should be able to identify the main components and the main circuits of a chiller

How is the air cooled chiller less efficient? For me the advantages override the non-use of latent heat exchange in the evaporator. 1- no cooling tower. 2- No condenser pumps 3- easy maintenance 4- easy fan replacement. 5- no dependence on water supply or water cost. 6- less chance of chiller surge. 7- less components to fail.

My understanding is that when the temperature increases the pressure from the sensing bulb increases also causing the gas flowing through to decrease in temperature. So my question is where is the sensing bulb located in the chillers system so it can read the temperature of the building

I don't understand you keep on saying supply chilled water in/out in the evaporator. it should be Air conditioned circulation in/out from building room in the minute 13. 30 (cmiiw.
You are talking about is air-cooled chiller rigth, not water-cooled chiller

Thanks for the education on these chillers; it definitely helped me see more clearly; Im starting to learn about air cooled chillers at my job as a HVAC facility maintenance technician where this type of study helps out a lot as far as operation

Thanks for the video. I have 2 questions.
why the pump is used on top of the building while the water will flow by gravity?
second question, how the water in floors below the chiller is coming back up to the chiller without using a pump?

reply

Are air chillers noisy? If you have them at say the first floor if the building with louvres and the next level up are balconies (above the louvres) of the apartments will there be a noise and health issue?
Thanks

If you had an air cooled chiller circuit with all the AHUs etc on primary side what would determine whether you pipe the chiller arrangement up in reverse return or just loop the flow and return?

It is a wonderful video to know the basics of Air cooled chiller. Thanks for the time given in explaining the working principles with animated video that clarifies the flow of chilled water.

The air cooled chiller and absorption chiller links in the description are interchanged. Kindly update. Appreciate your help in explaining so well the intricate details of system operation.

Thanks for your great explanation, but i have a question. what refrigerant usually used on an air cooled water chiller? i really need this for my assignment. Thank you so much
reply

Sir Thanks for your great exposure that thrown to us and my doubt is, Is the refrigerant is flowing through the tube or shell in air cooled chiller, can you pls clarify that?
reply

Hi Paul and thanks for explanation.
Any where in the uk to find a an institute or college to do a course on this Air cooled chiller specifically?
Kind regards
Mou.

I wish during university times near theoretical lesson there were lessons like these ones, in my opinion these videos are brillant from a didactical point of view

Thank you so much: I think there is a small mistake here, correct me if I am wrong- The fluid entering the evaporator is air, not water as you mentioned in 13: 29
reply

Hi Paul. Thanks a lot for the very interesting explanation.
Anywhere to apply for a course please?
Please send me name and address of college.
Regards

Both water to water and air to water use latent heat of evaporation.
Refrigerant leaving evaporator should be low temp low pressure superheated vapor.

I was trying to read and learn these systems over and over from books until I saw your videos. Great explanations and illustrations. Much appreciated.

Hello sir, hopefully a lot of thanks for u. i understood the HVAC system through the our videos. ur videos useful to fresher and again thank u
reply

Hi sir
Thanks for uploading the viedoe
But the voice is not clear and very low
Can you please make another viedoe for this

reply

Great video, great explanation, volume is a bit low so I had trouble hearing the video. Otherwise was very very well explained.
reply

Hello, Good evening do you have any paid course on chiller design software (MEP AutoCAD or revit. If you have please let me know.

I have so much confidence in Paul's presentation abilities that I always press that like button even before I watch the video: )
reply

Hey Paul! Thanks a lot for the vids. I was wondering if the 3d models where available cause they would be a life saver for me
reply

Usually cool is blue and hot is red, switching just makes confusion. 10: 17
Otherwise, great explanation!

If a chiller supplys FCU's with S and R does the AHU need the chiller S and R if the FCU's are supplied already?
