The Pippin was basically a low-end PowerPC Macintosh computer in a box. It ran MacOS, which was included on the game discs, rather than running in firmware. Games for the Pippin were supposedly quite easy to create from existing Mac software, and software made for the Pippin runs on Macs from that era. The Pippin was actually Bandais idea, having approached Apple to create a customized game console due to their fondness of MacOS. The word -Pippin, - of course, is another variety of apple.

The LMG made a video about the Apple Pippin, and to be honest, that level of gameplay and graphics design on that console was nowhere near to the SEGA consoles from that time.
But at least if you bought it, you had a very expensive music player, like the years later released iPod
