If you love climate science then you've probably wondered how big the Koppen climate zones are relative to each other. - Well, look no further, because after an extensive original survey of the globe, in a detailed study of geographic statistics, we have compiled such a list, comparing each climate zone in size globally, as well as which countries have the biggest proportions in each zone. For instance, it would not surprise you that Russia has the largest fraction of Subarctic - climates in the world. But which country has the most Hot Desert? - Get ready for a climate statistics overload!

The Map U Used Is Not True Exactly They Have Updated The Map And The Map Will Soon Change Due To Climate Change Especially The hot desert areas will increase due to less rain fall in Tropical Savannah Region Especially in Africa While Subarctic Area Will Decrease Due To Increasing Temperature And Continental Climate Might take Its Place. I Have Also Seen The Updated Map For Future In which desert area will increase and tropical Savannah will greatly loose its area But Am Also Interested In Seeing The Timeline Of Koppen Maps From Starting Of Human Cilivlization Or After Ice Age Cause after that time the temperature and rainfall have changed It Will Be Intresting To see how climate have changed during the history of human civilization mostly due to global warming. Overall The Video Was Great I Liked Ur Work----

Excellent production, but to me it shows the severe limitations of the Koppen system vs. broad zones in reality. Honolulu is far more tropical than Miami, but because it's drier and Koppen looked at overall temperature without extremes in -tropical- (he left out freezing, it's not - I think Honolulu is lumped in with hot steppes like Midland Texas that gets freezes. Not a chance. His system also failed to differentiate dryland areas in temperature belts like was done in humid subtropical and mid-latitude areas. Not to mention the Koppen system left out sub-humid prairie, quite distinct from semi-arid steppe and humid forest. Many examples of the latter in North America and Eurasia. But well presented.

I would love to ask you about the change in subtropical highlands in the past 60-80 years. In Kenya, I see that in the central area south of Mount Kenya, rain has been disappearing. They say it's because they've cut down the trees. Do you think this area is in danger of disappearing due to desertification? Permaculture and reforestation efforts aside - which I must say they are doing quite the job with. I wonder if that area because of mount Kenya is a CWC instead of CWB

It would be so cool to see a video on the cold summer Mediterranean climate (Koppen Csc. I grew up on O-ahu, but on Maui and Hawai-i island there is Csc climate in the highlands. the whole archipelago would make a great video. the islands experience a huge diversity of climates due to altitude and latitude and the ocean.

I've loved in all of dlthem as well as Cfb and only now do I realize that Cfb isn't all tha tbad, it's just that the other ones were so insanely good!

I would think that the western coast of Norway, south of Stad, would belong to the oceanic climate. Bergen IS the city in Europe getting the most rain after all with almost teice as much rainwater as Glascow

You mentioned -What determines how these areas look is a combination of topography, and climate-. but in fact what grows (which landscapes will form) depends for a large factor also on _Geology_

I must be out of my mind but I really want to live in a Tropical Rainforest climate zone city like Singapore: ) I love hot, wet weather. Everyone hates it and I understand why but I love it: )

Sweet video! I actually found this because one of my teachers is making me type up a paper on this video. Might consider watching your other videos afterwards, this was cool! :)

Great video! YES it's scary to see that Hot Desert is the largest climate zone. hope it doesn't grow. P. S, I'm from the U. S. and Mediterranean climate, so West Coast. :)

Oh wow, I knew a significant amount of land was within the tropics and subtropics, but I had no idea about which climate zones were bigger vs which were smaller

Hi Everyone! I hope you enjoyed this statistical tour-de-force! Say hi, and let me know which country and climate zone you're in!

Very cool stats about the areas of all the world's climate regions. By the way what music was used in this video?
reply

-there are 29 koppen zones in total-
I see that empty spot. What a shame that the Csc climate is nonexistent.

This is so insightful! You are an amazing nerd. Lord, I love patterns, graphs, charts. Bless your life!
