Few years back simply bought a 12V wall adapter, connected them (fans) up and been using them ever since.
E: before that connected the fans to a molex connector, so I could get the power from the computer.

It would have been nice if you had a small pcb with that potentiometer which controlled one or fans. It would be even better to have four potentiometers to control four 3 pin fans on that pcb.

Man that was rough to watch. Lot's of dry joints. Burnt wiring etc. I would not put that into service. OK for a once off experiment. But man. quick n dirty for sure.
