I gues you could save more power by using sleep mode.
The reed switch then creates an interrupt to wake the MCU up again. With a switch mode PSU a decent reduction in power, right?

According to my experience, 2575s which generates pwm is better than 7805 as voltage regulator. It may save electricity cost
