Hughes de Payens & the birth of the Knights Templar David: On raiding the Templar HQ in Paris, Philip was bitterly disappointed to find the coffers empty. Much of the Templar wealth was in fact only held on deposit and was not actually the property of the Order. Warning of Philip's planned raid had reached the Templars, who dispersed the money back to its real owners. As for rumours about the Templar Fleet, (a recent tale from the early 1800s, it never existed. The ships sailed under contract to the Order and were owned mostly by Genoese families.

When you look through the history of France, they been pretty successful, from their first king Clovis 1er, to Charles the Hammer saving Europe from the muslims invasion, Charlemagne, the Templar's, then with the 100year war with Joan of Arc, the conquest of the new world and Napoleon, they were pretty badass, but not anymore lol, now they are just successful with making delicious croissant.

Some sources say Hughes was born in Nocera dei Pagani in southern Italy and that he is buried in Ferrara. He himself is supposed to have written a letter saying he was from Nocera -his brother was Alessandro. They were probably of Norman or french origin -ancestors having settled in Italy.

I am Payne, ancestor of Hughes de Payen, after his death and his marriage to Catherine Sinclair of Scotland our bloodline spread through England as well and changed to Payne, we come from the Viking Theobauld the Pagan of Normandy. hence the name Payen/Payne means Pagan

I think they also instituted the idea of getting people to give them money at point of departure, with a promise to pay back at point of arrival, a letter of credit was all the traveller had to carry. This was an early form of modern banking ideas.

That was great thanks. It was short and to the point without any distractions. And thanks for not mentioning the god awful DaVinci Code or Indiana Jones.

Philip the evil, Satan's king. Who goes down in history as the most greedy of the kings. Worse than John of England's. May he burn in hell.

Why are you depicting the Knights Templar as white men? This all happened in Jerusalem. This is a brown skinned nation.

In Portugal they stayed with the name Ordem de Cristo and they helped in exploration of India and America.
