Barbarians Rising: Spartacus and the Slave Rebellion (S1, E2) - History Jeff: Inaccurate portrayal of the Romans, and slavery in the classical world. Not all slaves were whipped and sent to the salt mines or gladiator rings. Most were house servants, guards, and some were even teachers and doctors. Having Jesse Jackson on the show added no credence to the issue of slavery in the Roman world.

Spartacus is a legendary Thracian freedom fighter & the most famous gladiator in Rome's history.
He continues to be a symbol of resistance & justice to many around the world even today.
Long live the spirit of Spartacus!

Actually the spot of a gladiator was a very Appealing choice over over having debt and slavery. They were treated very well and the pay for winning one fight was the pay of an annual salary of a solider

Pity you made some mistakes, dudes! There was always a referee at gladiator fights and statues were almost always colored. But I bet it's a good movie anyway.

Why in the name of christ is Jesse Jackson in a documentary about ancient Rome? Trying to tie the Spartacus slave revolt into black civil rights?

Well, if do not like, whatever the true story of Spartacus, there they have to watch insipid movies like Black Panther and The Avengers.

A great leader? He was forced to stay by his men instead of leading them to Alps. He was a great military tactician though.
