The First Tuskegee Ace of WWII - Dogfights - History Nicky: Years ago I interviewed Gen. Davis on the phone. Not for any publication but to just pick his brain. I read his book and found he didn't live that far from me. I looked him up in the phone book and he was listed. This was before the internet, probably during the Compuserve and Commodore 64 days. Any way I called the number and he was the one who actually picked up. I wasn't really expecting to get through. But I just started asking him questions after I told him I read his book. The man was gracious as he answered more than I was asking. I was just mostly listening because he didn't just give me one liner answers but explained and went into details. I must have spent about 15min on the phone and began to feel guilty taking up his time out of the blue. He didn't ask me who I was or who I was representing he was just willing to talk freely to a stranger. I thought that was amazing. All I can say is these guys back then had class.

My grandpa flew P-38s in the pacific. He swore it was the best plane for that theater, blasting Mitsubishis and diving away when outnumbered. He fought zero's and swore the P-38 could turn slightly better on account of its superior horsepower. -
Life got you down? Curl up with a good book and escape the real world for a bit. And maybe learn something new. When times were toughest I escaped into literature and its the best decision I ever made. -
These are my favorite books, all available on Amazon: -
- Lightstrike by John Zeleznik-
- Infinite Worlds by Vincent DiFate-
- Beyond the Horizon by John Harris-
- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson

No ill will intended, but it's been documented that NO Tuskegee pilots became aces. The story of B-17 pilots 'requesting' them is false also. Predictably, the unique story has been embellished over time until the inaccuracies have been mistakenly learned as 'fact' and now days you DARE NOT try to correct those mistakes or the PC police will get you. A few brave individuals (Barrat Tillman) have dared to try to correct the record.

This simply is not true. There were no Tuskegee aces. Three pilots of the 332nd (Archer included) had four kills each. This is explained in detail on the Tuskegee Airmen website.
Another myth is that the 332nd never lost a bomber they were escorting. This is absolutely untrue. They lost 27 bombers under their -watch- which was far fewer than the other squadrons of the 15th Air Force.

Did you notice Lt. Col. Archer said -the 109 pilot WAS on heck of a good flyer-? I post this as an Honorary Tuskegee Airmen & would like to mention we lost Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson several days ago. He was shot down in WWll & spent 10 months in a German POW Camp. Mr. Jefferson lived to see 100 years on -. R. I. P. Red Tail
reply

I love the red tails I have a respect for those men they could really dogfight putting a man under pressure and a lot riding on him they usually perform perfectly and those 109s didn-t Stand a chance they went to fight jets I doubt those Germans could win

Interesting fact: you had only 30 seconds of fire time in a P-51, so for anyone to be able to shoot down 1 or 2 planes is amazing, but to get 5 in one run is absolutely incredible. Mad respect for this man, proving the stereotypes wrong.

reply

Men fought as lions, gob bless them and their hearts. I got nothing but respect and love for their actions. May we all have a chance to stand as tall as y-all

A P-51 flew over my house and went vertical, that engine roared and just shook the trees!
Could imagine dozens all -Fire walled- would just shake the World!

I've always heard that WW2 planes had convergence on their guns. Did the Tuskegee set theirs not to converge?
the video shows the streams never cross.

reply

I always wanted to be a pilot but never
Happen for me I love to watch dog fights
Knowing full well its death but love to see planes in action

reply

I don't know how many times I've seen this, but it still gives me goosebumps to hear the narrator say- The Tuskegee Airmen Now have an ACE! -
reply

The red tails against the me 262(not sure but it is jet powered plane) is also a good story, mustangs really fought jet powered german plane!
reply

Great documtary but saying he was an ace is incorrect. He had 3 or 4 kills depending on the source. He himself claimed 4. Ace is 5.
reply

The Yankee pilots got the ace Status for just 5 kills. In most of the other nations you had a lot more to do to get that Reputation

Racism doesn't work so great in situations like this. In fact, said victims of Racism have additional inspiration.
