Judging by their size, I think Sohla might've gone a little overboard with how big she made them. 10mm is about 1cm, which seems like it'd be about half the diameter the balls she made had. Having 30 power balls as large as she made them would probably give you a headache from too much sugar.
These seem to be about as big as the brigadeiro balls we make for children party here in Brasil. If they're anywhere near as sweet, yeah. I understand her complaints.

More often than not, a ninja would've looked like a normal civilian, as to not draw attention, and were not trained assasins as modern pop culture likes to potray them as.
Some were ordered to perform assassinations but it would be more correct to picture Shinobi no mono as units for espionage, like a spy. Fun fact, some samurai also performed espionage like the Shinobi no mono, as the role didn't restrict which class was allowed to become one.

9: 05 Not literally the same thing as LSD. Sure - Lysergic acid diethylamide is extracted from the rye fungus called Ergot but eating it caused Ergotism (Also known as St. Anthony's fire) which caused symptoms such as severe convulsions, muscle spasms and even gangrene in the extremities.
Ergot killed people, LSD doesn't.

i think like a lot of history. it is colored by the victors perspective. and as they were making the balls. they were not thinking about their upcoming job, but about how their families can live off the leftovers.
soaking that last one in saki for 3 years would probably fix some of those problems

I see lots of the comments implying that ninjas were high off their socks because of the rye fungus thing, but as i see it, seems more like micro-dosing, which apparently increases or at least focuses the current/average mental state, and also allows better access to the sensory information obtained.

If the thirst balls don't call for rice why put so much in that you ALSO have to add water? Why not only use enough rice for the moisture you already HAVE? Doesn't the rice simply serve to add bulk, which you're trying to avoid, and dilute the active ingredients?

I wish your team had done more research-. The rye fungus in Japan is Koji mold a type of Aspergillus (not the toxic kind) that is used widely in Japanese cuisine to flavor many things such as sake and soy sauce. It is NOT Ergot and is not psychedelic!

When she-s says that the thirst balls are salty it makes me wonder if they weren-t ment to hydrate you but may have been used to increase water absorption with the limited water they had on them (because sodium increase fluid absorption)

8: 54 I'm pretty sure there are some secret agents who still do this on long missions, I mean just for an example the FBI were experimenting this for Missions, they could have also used the food pill as an offensive instrument as well.

Could you cut the soak time by just swapping some of the water for saki on the last one?
I have some funky diet restrictions but think these would be fun to make for my husband.
How long would they keep for?

Maybe the Saki made them more palatable. Perhaps soak them for a week then make them.
Also maybe you should try making the thirst balls with rye flour instead of the rice flour.

I'd love to see an episode about what the Landsknecht ate while on the march. The Landsknecht were flashy and flamboyant mercenary armies from 16th century Germany.

I hope you try the sake ball experiment. Please film it for a follow up, or even a short we'll see in 3 years! I'm sure it has to do with why they last so long.

About all the history and speculation about -trips- and what not it is a good idea for carrying manageable foods. I would cheat and use my Ninja bullet blender.

If you take the thirst balls with water it may help you hydrate faster because of the salt. So it might help conserve on water. Like how Gatorade has sodium

I feel like you should put a bunch of the ginsing balls in sake, try one in 6 months, then another one after a year has passed, then 2 then finally 3 years.

As I recall, LSD tolerance is high, so the hallucinogenic effect would be weaker day by day if consumed daily.
