As a meter a fact on first concensus in Bosnia and Hercegovina made by Austrians in 1879 majority of population was Ortodox Christians with 42. 9% and Muslims with 38. 7. First time when Muslims are majority is in consencus in 1971 where Muslims were 39. 6% and Serbs 37. 1%.
Muslims reached 50% in Bosnia and Hercegovina only in concensus in 2013 when Muslims were 50. 1%.\r\n

It is good to mention that the inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina who today declare themselves as Bosniaks or Muslims are actually descendants of either Croats or Serbs, given that the Bosniak nation was created through religious identity, not ethnic identity. Before the Ottoman Empire came to Bosnia, there were only two peoples in Bosnia, the Croats and the Serbs.

Another important event was the -Great Raid- into Bosnia by Prince Eugene of Savoy who made it to Sarajevo in 1697 AD. He burnt Sarajevo down and many Catholics left Bosnia at this time with Prince Eugene as he went back into Croatia.
They didn't want to wait for the advancing Ottoman Turks. After this exodus the muslim population increased.

Not exactly accurate on the whole story but still very close. One note about the Jizya, it's actually much less than what the Muslims themselves have to pay as Zakat which is 2. 5 of whatever they own, money and any other tangibles animals, land etc. Jizya is only compulsory for fit and capable men not on children, women and old people.

Just a note, We bosniaks are ourselves almost 100% Muslim the reason why the country itself only is 55-60% or so Muslim is because there are plenty of serbs and croats in the country who perdominently practice Christianity.

Bosnia is a beautiful country. I visited in August 2022, went to both Mostar and Sarajevo (I prefer Mostar. I hope to return one day. The people are friendly, the food is nice, and the nation-s history is well preserved.
