Why didn't Rome conquer Persia? This interesting clip forgot to mention that 3 Roman Emperors were eliminated in classic battles in battlefields and one captured and killed by Persians. Romans were paying war tributes for decades to Shapour the First of House of Sassan. The mightiest King of Kings of Iran and An-Iran during Sassanid Empire. Sassanids were inventors of many cavalry formations and weaponries at that time. The both Persian Empires were in continuous battles at north east of the empire that needed at times most of the manpower of Persians. For that reason alone, there was not a long term conquer campaign of Persians at West and Romans were lucky for that.
The former long lasting Persian Empire in Roman-Persian wars, Parthians, had an extra weapon: A Parliament. The Mahestan Parliament (state of noblemen) that reduced power of Kings of Kings of Iran and the Kings of Kings had to consult that parliament for wars. So, a great support was always available for the Kings of Kings in battles.\r\n

A miracle mentioned in the Holy Qur-an. When the noble verse was revealed to the Messenger of God, may God-s prayers and peace be upon him, the Persians had defeated the Romans, and people at that time believed that it was impossible for the Roman Empire to win, but the Holy Qur-an brought a miracle, where God said: In the name of God the Merciful (The Romans have been defeated in the lowest part of the earth, and after their defeat they will be victorious in a few years. To God belongs the command before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice in the victory of God. He gives victory to whomever He wills, and He is the Mighty, the Most Merciful) God has mentioned that the fighting was in the lowest part of the earth, and modern science has now discovered that the sea The dead is the lowest place on earth, the place where the Romans and Persians fought, Glory be to God

A few points: 1- Why did you specifically avoided the MOST IMPORTANT battle between Iranians (Persians) and Rome in the Battle of Carrhae? 2- To make this more understandable for your audience you may want to just describe the Iranian side as simply the Iranian side instead of using the different Dynasty names like Parthians, Sassanians); since every time a new Cezar takes over Rome, do you cal Rome by the name of that Cezar instead of just saying Rome? 3. Did you know that Iran has many tribes, you stated that Rome was under pressure from Germanic and Alanic armies. Did you know the Alans are an Iranian tribe? so are, Ossetians, Sarmations, Scythians, Massagates, Tocharians. collectively you can refer to these as either Iranian or Aryan tribes. Iran means Land of the Aryans. Please write back if you have any questions.

Because Parthian Persia was Rome's counterpose in those times. Parthia kicked Rome's ass on multiple occasions. The -Bagdad battery- was created during Parthian Persia. When Josephus speaks about the lost tribes beyond the Euphrates, who do you think he is speaking of? Some say the Parthian Magi came to Jerusalem to pay tribute to the new born king because the Royalty, nobels, and high priests were the descendants of some of the Lost Tribes of Israel. Also, it wasn't just 3 wise men, it was a host of soldiers and servants numbering in the thousands. Herod thought they were being invaded!

Your video is good, but in this video it seems that you intend to show a stronger superiority of Rome over the Persians with some of your words. Repeatedly repeating the capture of the capital from the Sassanids and Parthians and not mentioning the great victories of the Iranians against the Romans, as well as the significant conquest of Roman territories by the Iranians, all this is considered a kind of promotion for the 'Roman Empire. For a good documentary, it is necessary to tell all the reality and not to exaggerate the victories of a side, and not ignore the victories of its adversary.

In contrast to those Iranian officials who claim that the Turks in Iran were actually originally Persians, the late IRGC Commander Qassem Suleimani claimed that the descendants of Turkic dynasties that live in Iran are not Iranian. Suleimani claimed: -Turks are aliens and non-Iranians. For hundreds of years (during Turkic rule in Iran, Iran had no history. Non- Iranians like the Seljuks invaded and ruled Iran. -74-

Roman and Persian Empire had their great interesting relationship too.
For example persian used to send their prince and princes to the palace of Roman to be safe and trained and Roman used to do the same.
The time of assassination in the palace of Persian, many royals moved to Rome and then back to Iran after. Same with Roman.
Many iranian Royal and Roman got married too. Similarity in face, blood and family name is totally clear.

4 Roman emperors got killed in field or after it in captivity of Persians. Not a single king of kings of Sassanians nor Parthians got harms during that 700 years of battles. Similar to Romans, Persians were almost in constant battle with nomads of North east, Mongolians and Aral nomads which were attacking borders of the empire to loot in groups of 100 k plus in many of those wars.

In fact, Turkic-speaking peoples have played a major role in Iranian history, ruling the country from the eleventh century up to the early twentieth. Even today they represent more than a quarter of Iran's population. -

I don't understand the political culture of these iranian empires. Why is their capital in ctesiphon? It is in a vulnerable geographical position and there are more cities in iran's hesrtland which are older but they used ctesiphon as capital. Why?

Persia is a black hole digest everything and everyone. ( Arabs, Mongol, Macedon for example)
Roman tried few times but got defeated every time. It's is written in every book and carved on the wall of mountain in Iran.

reply

because Iranian warriors were much stronger with high morale, high iq battle tactics than romans, one of the best example of that is the battle of carhhae, where 36 000-43 000 romans were defeated by 10 000 parthians
reply

that vertical line in modern time would be from the north eastern border of Jordan, up between Syria & Iraq, eastside Turkey then northwest border of Iran. That's some tight spot terrain for a throw down.

If there-s one civilization that can be called true conquerors, it-s the Iranian/Persian civilization, for even though they are conquered militarily they end up conquering their conquerors culturally
reply

What a confident narrator. I like how Westerners view of Rome is bad butt boy. Joke aside, for good chunk of its existence, Rome was permitted so by maintaining their payments of tribute
reply

Trajan did conquer Mesopotamia, Armenia, and other regions of the Persian Empire, but it was short-lived. Septimius Severus did the same thing, but couldn't hold onto the territories.

Conquering Persia for any power from the west means dealing with everyone in Asia including the Chinese, it is more easer to manage the Persians when they play their own game
reply

The Romans was more powerful than the Persians? Yes, absolutely.
Could Rome conquer Persia? They could, but itnwould have required too many resources from elsewhere

reply

Foreign climate, too remote for administration from Rome, large expanses of arid terrain, liable to fracture into a rival administration even after being conquered.
reply

look at the size of roman empire and Iranian parthian and sassanid empire, thats really shocking how small number size Iranians defeated romans in many battles
reply

-Why-? Because they couldn't. They tried multiple times, being defeated one after the other. The greatest being victories of Shapur the great!
