In this episode of composing for the piano, we explore how to present the Music Matters theme in Rumba style. The distinctive Rumba rhythm is explained and Gareth talks through how he has arranged the melodic design to fit the Rumba rhythm, how and why the harmony has been adapted, and what he has done with the texture to explore the style while at the same time providing both cohesion and variety. The score is on the board, with the distinctive Rumba rhythm separately notated and demonstrated. to the piece 0:54 - What is a Rumba? 2:09 - Writing the melody 3:19 - The left hand pattern 4:13 - Looking at the harmony 5:48 - Filling out the texture 6:45 - What does it sound like?

Just ask between Rumba and Beguine style....both seems similar but I have a feel that Rumba is always on the slow side while Beguine is towards to fast side. Did I misunderstood something and can I say the whole picture from slow to fast in terms of tempo: Rumba - Cha-cha - Beguine - Bossanova - Samba?

this was quite fascinating to me...by rumba am I correct in assuming this is what westerners call rumba? i.e. a collective term for what Cubans call Son, Danzon and Bolero? anyway most interesting...

Gareth! I couldn-t find a video to help me with one thing: I have a melody, I have chords for it... but I want it to fit 1 5 6 4 chords progression... how to do it?

I am not musically trained, but this sounds vaguely familiar yet I need to re-watch this to get the feel of the rhythm. thanks for the cool upload.

That was great! I have an old instrumental rumbas vinyl (heard some boleros on here too) and am curious about these styles
