A final game with Elwyn Berlekamp (Amazons) Iain: Ok, here's a question: how many sides does a circle have? I have a theory that a circle has an infinite number of sides. I have 2 reasons for this. 1) you can make a 2 dimensional shape with any number of lines down to 3, but you cannot make a 2-sided shape, anything below 3 is a line, which is 1-dimensional. 2) as regylar polygons increase (decagon, 100-agon, 26000-agon, Tree3-agin, etc) they tend towards a circle unless you draw then the size of the universe. So a shape with an infinite number of sides would be a circle, correct?

It's not that different to Battle Sheep or Hey That's My Fish. In fact you could play either game with similar rules. And yeah, in both games the board gets split up into sub-sections, in fact controlling how that happens is 80% of the strategy.

What a video and inspiring scientist.
Rest in Peace Mr. Berlekamp.
Am I the only one who looked online everywhere to find this game, found an app that got deleted and am desperately waiting for someone to develop something similar?

Has anybody developed any opening theory for the usual set-up (2 x 4 amazons on 10x10 board? Or set AlphaZero to learn it by playing against itself? It would be interesting to see which kind of openings it would consider the strongest.

I have an idea to solve Riemann hypothesis. Create a video game where all elements like weight volume size color is based on Riemann zeta function if you find consistancy in the virtual world then it is true otherwise it is false

we played a modification of this to teach games theory and optimization principles. learned to change board size, how to work as teams, how the game changes when you try to die. etc.

4: 44 For people who say Americans don't have accents well here you go. Americans have a huge number of accents throughout the country but they are pretty subtle.

: ( I'm so sad. If his family or friends see this I hope they know that he gave immense joy to millions of people through these videos as I'm sure he did in person.

RIP Elwyn Berlekamp.
He first came to my notice as one of the co-authors of -Winning Ways-, a marvellous resource for combinatorial games and other stuff.
