EVERY baby is a ROYAL baby Le: But this is impossible or quite unlikely. If now all native Europeans have the same ancestor, Charles the great, that means during his time, all other persons in Europe didn't have any children or they all died. Which is very unlikely to have happened. Is there any statistics to prove that all of them died or no children at all, only Charles had babies? :-D

Fun fact about my parents - they met at a family reunion, because they're like, 5th cousins once removed or something. They kept track of the family tree since the 19th century when two brothers and their families first immigrated to Canada - one parent is descended from each brother, so the brothers' parents are my parents' common ancestors.

I don't understand. What about the isolated populations of Australia or the Congo? Are we saying they're direct ancestors of Europeans in the last 500 years? That doesn't make sense
I don't understand how we can take away the restriction of going back through mothers and fathers and then we're related.

Our biology shows that there must have been a situation somewhen where there were only two males left. So today about half of the men are descendent of one of those and the other half from the other one. And this is because there are only two variations of y-chromosome in humans extant.

I think we should come up with a 1000-yr plan to make Earth a better place for all. We all want the best for our children and our grandchildren. In 1000 years, everyone of the time will be everyone of today's descendents so there should be no favoritism over that interval.

My Uncle was very proud of the the fact that he was 8, 527 in line to be the King of England, if people died in a specific order. He got depressed when someone died in the wrong order and he went up to well over 12, 000 in line. He said he now had no real chance.

Related to royalty does not mean descended from royalty. For a minute, I thought that if only some hundred million people would die before me I would be next in line for some royal throne somewhere. No need to plot the destruction of mankind.

I love this video! But there is one thing I really want to understand. Why would it me more accurate to make the calculations with the population ah the time of MRCA? Is it just your suppositions or does this hypothesis have a source?
reply

Could you please come with a more rigorous proof on why the MRCA must necessarily exist? Talking about MRCA not the IAP. IAP is easy to understand intuitively (either their lines died out or is the ancestor of everyone living today.

Does this not assume randomness in the selection of partners? Historically we have clearly seen that selecting your mate is far from random and often which -family- you belong to plays a key role in determining pairing
