Examine the ethical stance known as longtermism, which is the idea that we should be doing more to protect future generations. Imagine that your life began as one of the planet s first humans. After dying, you're reincarnated as the second human ever to live. You then return as the third person, the fourth, the fifth, and so on living the lives of every human that s ever walked the Earth. How will your actions in one life impact your future selves? Explore the ethics of the philosophy known as longtermism.

I was recently learning about conventions to prevent/prohibit the use and threat of nuclear weapons and other related matters. I realized how inefficient and unwilling world powers were with regard to giving up ballistic weapons. From my understanding they consider it a form of security and looking at political scenario now, if one country detonates a ballistic missile, the rest will willingly join and the world would definitely perish of any human trace. Just thought I'd share this here

I think if reincarnation is a thing there is a decent chance of this idea being true, but instead for all concious life in the universe. Time, space & separation being little more than an illusion, one p. o. v. experiencing and maybe even thereby generating it all. That or us living in a simulation.
Just going by my personal reasoning if there is something more and permanent to our conciousness I'd bet on it being one of the two.

I've read a story that uses this concept. It's a interesting thought experiment. The one thing that is not considered in the story that I read or in this video is that we are no different than our ancestors. We have not significantly evolved since our ancestors were hunter gatherers. We were born into a world that has developed interesting technology over time. Our species and our survival instincts have not changed.

I often think about the idea of how individual things represents a whole. Like how a single individual represents the human race, and subsequently life, carbon based organisms, and suddenly we are this huge conscious mass, stuck in space, always reproducing and getting larger, trying to expand, stretching it's reach. From the micro lives inside your body to the macro spectrum of the existence of living.

Always said this is the most probable theory to life. We are one entity or seed, going through various circumstances, gathering knowledge and information. Much like you would run a simulation to gather the best outcomes and create the ultimate being. also sort-of explains things like Deja Vu and why some people match so well in relationships where both persons look simular. Awesome theory

There is a similar short story titled The Egg by Andy Weir! The story follows along a conversation between you and God about all your past lives that you lived, reincarnating every time after you die. It's very philosophical and existential, and it's totally worth reading!

If I ever experienced many lives, I either become a Omnipotent and omniscient being or becoming mad after experiencing many lives that make constantly make you forget who you are and what you stand, witnessing death of loved ones and everlasting loneliness and many more.

I am unemployed and depression engulfed me, forcing me to think why are we born, what is truth in this world, how our lives could be different if we r born in different family, these questions are coming in my mind again and again. What to do please help?

The thing we keep in mind is that if you calculate for an average of 3 generations per 100 years, this means that there are only 1000 generations from the beginning of humanity until now. It's alot, but not that much at the same time, when you think about it.

100% science free narrative that should be clearly marked as MAGICAL THINKING for kids' protection.
Opens kids' cognition to exploits based on magical thinking.
Business model: publicise magical narratives and sell magical solutions.

One obvious problem with this rather romantic view is that you cannot define the first human.
Like every other animal, we're ever-evolving. There is no clear boundary at which our far ancestors suddenly became human.

This is the exact premise of Christianity. Christ experienced all our lives through his atonement for our sins. So be kind to others for when you are you are kind to Christ and therefore yourself.
