What happens if an engineered virus escapes the lab?

How do we keep labs that handle dangerous pathogens safe and leak-free? Dig into the ongoing debate over virology research. Since the 1970s, researchers have engineered superbugs. While this research could help us prepare for future outbreaks, the stakes of this work are extremely high: if even one dangerous virus escaped a lab, it could cause a global pandemic. So, what can we do to minimize risk? And is the knowledge gained even worth the risk in the first place? Dig into the ongoing debate over virology research.

The only real world applications of EPPP research are Military, and Commercial. All of this work should be done in simulators and the emphasis should be on confirmation of what's possible in simulation. This is a means of production. For a pharmaceutical company being able to stock up on a vaccine or therapy ahead of an outbreak would be the GDP version of the holy grail. That's a dangerous motive for psychopathic corporate entity. I don't think I need to explain the Military angle.

i lean on NOT making more dangerous organisms or gain of function. thing is we will never run out of ideas on creating dangerous organisms and is more like an excuse to research bio weapons. do we make nuclear weapons so that we can learn how best way to beat it? research on biology and vaccines alone are risks for leaks and could lead to gain of function. also the unnecessary need for more animal testing for new organisms.

I appreciate the video but as with so many technical occupations there are hazards that only someone working there would understand. The general public cannot understand because they all cannot work there so we have to trust the experts. Hopefully the benefit outweighs the risk. Also, do we have any choice about this? I don't remember voting on this or being asked my opinion of whether these labs should exist.

wouldn't it be a good idea to just have their research facilities on a secluded area far from civilization like an island or in mountains, and then have them sign something beforehand saying that if there is a leak, they have to stay in that facility until everything is clear? so an outbreak won't start? perhaps it's easier said than done lol

And now there is a pandemic that started in the same city as a US funded Institute that was teaching bat coronaviruses to infect human cells. Epidemiologist Professor Raina MacIntyre notes there have been vested interests against acknowledging the likelihood of lab accidents. This is the latest example.

If they manipulate the DNA or RNA why cant the design a safety feature in the the new variant? E. g. the variant cant replicate once in the cell or it dies outside some very rare or impossible growing conditions?

I've created an AI programmed to kill all of humanity in the most brutal fashion possible. If it ever gets access to the internet, humanity is doomed. I just want to learn from it, it'll be fiiiine.

International Lab Leak Committee: Let's talk about where to put our labs to prevent lab leaks. Thoughts?
EU: Put it on an remote island.
US: Put it in space.
China: There was no leaks.

What happens if an engineered virus escapes the lab? This is a fatuous question. We've all spent the last three years seeing exactly what happened when an engineered virus escaped Fauci's lab.
reply

Isn t this a silly question What if? It s what happened in September 2019 and Fauci had American tax dollars pay for enhancing it in Wuhan except it didn t exactly escape, it was let out

2: 43 But many critics argued that it s unclear whether bird flu would ever evolve in the wild as it did in the lab.
It didn t evolve in the lab. Genetic manipulation is not evolution.

Worse is when you are dealing with a rouge nation that the WHO has incentivized to look the other way to not offend them as they den, hide and deflect criticism.

To answer the title: it gets called COV SARS ll and the world over reacts and shuts down and causes far more damage than the virus then no one is held accountable.

Why are the scientists depicted in such a grotesque way? :o The small heads in contrast to the large bodies makes them look alien or inhuman, and quite creepy.
