The truth is that there was no single cause to the Civil War. Even though the idea is very popular, slavery WAS NOT the cause of the Civil War. Instead, it was the many events that divided the nation regionally and brought the topic of slavery to the center of politics that would lead to war. Some of these events include the Missouri Compromise of 1820, the Compromise of 1850, the Mexican-American War, the caning of Sumner, and the book Uncle Toms Cabin, if youre curious.
You could even take it back to the creation of the country when the Founding Fathers came up with the 3/5 compromise where instead of abolishing slavery and preventing the future conflicts, it counted slaves as 3/5 of a person in the constitution. Then, theres also the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison which said that if a state did not like a federal law, then they could secede from the union. Fun fact, when South Carolina seceded at the start of the Civil War, the people actually cited the founding fathers and the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions as justification for seceding from the union.
So really it was just a matter of time until the country was drawn into civil war. The founding fathers started the trend of pushing the issue of slavery aside, but that couldnt go on forever. The Election of Lincoln would be the last straw that would lead to the secession of the southern states; compromise, in their mind, was no longer possible.

The USA was NOT a nation. The one piece of legislation was the Declaration of Independence; which held the colonies to be Free and Independent states, with the full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and do all the other things that independent states may of right do. That's PLURAL; so each state was a SEPARATE nation.
Get your facts straight, Neocon.

Now its happening when my neighbors slander they rejoice when supposedly win.
And gather laugh like they did a great thing. scammers.
Dangerous people who dont care to hurt people.
Even inside my apartment I hear what they say.
I don't understand how they can do that like they dont have a conscience,
It's a big family like they lived doing this hurting others.

It was not a civil war, it was a war for southern independence. The reason for the desire to be independent was immoral but it was the effort to keep the southern states as part of the union is what led to the bloodshed. There was no major blood spilled until the north invaded the south.

My school is pretty small private school of 43 students, so I hoped we were more advanced with technology. Now that e-learning happened because of quarantine, I don't want to have school-provided computers anymore lol. (I think God has a funny sense of humor. :D )

You have to remember that at that time, the Democrats were the conservative party, and the Republicans were the relatively progressive party. Now it's the complete opposite.

Popular Sovereignty is still a good idea, moral busybodies should not decide what the people believe is moral, they should work to change the minds of the people.

Lincoln was a tyrant and a despot who threw people in jail without due process, exiled a US Congressman, and closed down newspapers. Glad that POS was killed.

How does the Republican Party go from a rallying anti-slavery sentiment in 1850 to neo naziism, anti-immigration and in support of Trump ideologies in 2020?
reply

To be clear. northerners could care less about enslaved blacks. they were more concerned over the economic advantages slavery gave the southern states.
