I have a super-ambitious polyglot friend, he said that he will learn and able to speak all existing 8000 (perhaps more) language in the world (including Conlang) in just 10 years. Now, he is currently learning it day and night in his room, never get out not untill he achieves his dream, poor lad.

I feel like it's so hard for foreigner to learn my language - Georgian, because only verb can have about two thousand form (11series x 12 subjective and objective signs x 15 verb prefics =1980 forms) and we don't even think while using one: D

Italian and SPanish are more mutually intelligble by sound to each other, and Portuguese and Spanish in writing in my opinion. Just be careful for the false cognates because I thought my Portuguese friend was dead.

I suppose a common language must have existed, with too few vocabulary and possibly loose grammar. New languages developed from them as new environments required new words/sounds/symbols.

Hungarian has tons of words directly borrowed/absorbed from other languages like German as mentioned. But, there are also Turkic, Slavic and Romance influence on the language.

I got a BA in International Relations and a minor in French, which required me to take a Linguistics 101 class. It was probably my favorite class!

No information as usual. All we got to know that there are different languages. Wait! We already knew that. These videos are such a waste of time.

I wonder whether, as the people of the world continue to travel and mingle, that a universal language will ever come back.
