You've probably heard that carbon dioxide is warming the Earth. But how exactly is it doing it? Lieven Scheire uses a rainbow, a light bulb and a bit of quantum physics to describe the science behind global warming. Lesson by Lieven Scheire

Funny that the video forgets to mention that among the greenhouse gases, CO2 is the weakest of them all. The symmetrical, non-polar CO2 molecule only absorbs 2, no more, no less but exactly 2 infrared frequencies. All other greenhouse gases are many times more efficient at heat radiation absorption. Why wasn't that mentioned?

This video touches so much part of modern physics and optics, I finally got to see a bigger picture of all those topics that I have studied and forgotten, and why i loved science in first place. I guess this is meaning of higher understanding that is gained after long time of mundane studying small things

This is what one says mind-blowing! Thank you for sharing! Probably, the best Ted-ed video that I have watched ever. In just 5 minutes, so much information presented in a concise way. This should be part of the school curriculum.

i have a question, why does the C02 fall back to its previous energy level when in the video it is always mentioned that once the atom absorbs the photon it shifts to its next energy level?

I teach atomic emission spectra in my high school chemistry classes. Thanks for the awesome videos that I get to share with my students!

It's such a shame only very few people watch these kind of videos. And those few will never look at the world the same again.

Strange that climate deniers and right-wing trolls haven't flooded in. Oh right, they don't make arguments based on facts and science.

this is one of these videos where information keeps flowing in but you still understand it, I'm feeling kinda in epiphany right now lol
