He was one of the most fearsome warlords who ever lived, waging an unstoppable conquest across the Eurasian continent. But was Genghis Khan a vicious barbarian or a unifier who paved the way for the modern world? Alex Gendler puts this controversial figure on trial in History vs Genghis Khan. Lesson by Alex Gendler

The reason people defend Khan is not because he is a hero to be admired. It's because people in the west praise Alexander the great (another monster) like some hero, yet condemn Khan as a monster. In reality, Khan should be seen as equal to Alexander or maybe even greater in both accomplishments and ethics. Even Vikings are admired as complete badasses for being brutal (even though it's mostly a myth) yet condemn Khan.

Lol criticizing him for massacre and destruction? Any ancient empires or even small countries done that.
Alexander the Great brought devastation and slavation to some places.
Ancient China did. Persia&Ottoman did. Lots of medieval Europe kingdom done it.
Its like when your conquer from West. You get treated as a hero.
If your conquerer from East.
You get treated as a barbarian.

I think that when judging past figures, we should compare them with other figures of that time, rather than nowadays. Morals and ethics have changed a ton, so it isn't really fair to judge those figures with our ethics and morals.

While Khan was extremely brutal, he was a very smart person who knew the importance of knowledge and that it shouldn't be destroyed, but rather preserved, even after a culture had fallen, it's history would still be known.

The US nuked two cities, killed and crepled tens thousands of civilians, when there was no necessity to do so. Power of nuclear weapons could have be demonstrated in other way. Waiting for history against Truman.

Imagine, back then the invention of the internet was so impossible, that you better to send lots of scholars, priest, and monk across the vast kingdom than trying to figure out how internet works.

Anytime there is writing about civilizations being barbaric, you should take it with a grain of salt as they are most likely written by enemies such as how the Vikings are portrayed

i had great respect for mongols though they start conquering powerful country that has advance weapon while they only wear leather and cloth using a bow and horses.

My Grand Daddys fought Chengiz Khan's Army,
Defeated them thrice,
They took his crown sir name as theirs,
And no one will mention em

U forgot about the part where they cut off the head and made mountains of skulls. surely that gives off vibes of a great and just leader?
