It may seem like the semicolon is struggling with an identity crisis. It looks like a comma crossed with a period. Maybe thats why we toss these punctuation marks around like grammatical confetti; were confused about how to use them properly. Emma Bryce clarifies best practices for the semi-confusing semicolon. For some bizarre, but funny reason, this came to my mind:
Has anyone ever seriously thought about the character, semi-colon since semi means half, or 50%? _Seriously. _ Why is it called a semi-colon [half-colon] anyway? The bottom 'comma' portion clearly uses more space than the the upper, 'colon' [plus SPACE] part therefore it's MORE than just 'semi' [half]? Shouldn't it be more accurate to call it a comma plus dot, or, a dotted comma like we say, dotted 'i'?

I'm not completely sure how to use a semicolon, nor am I totally lost tho. I'm kinda confused on them sadly but I think the more I use them I may get it. Anyways thank you i'm trying to get ready for 6th grade because in elementary they only taught us some things, but I hope in the future I will get it!

When a bunch of people die, they use it in an obituary to list their names. It can be used to finish a sentence with many commas, or plot twist fundamentally though it develops emergent information that may terminate assumptions in your sentences. its a hermeneutic tool. you'll figure it out.

I used to think I was using semicolons incorrectly, but this has proven me wrong. I honestly think semicolons are underrated. I used to be intimidated by them; not anymore: )

Coma: very fast but it has no arms
Semi comas: jumps a lot but pretty weak
Periods: the stronger of the 3 but is a snail and cant really jump
