In many ways, our memories make us who we are, helping us remember our past, learn and retain skills, and plan for the future. And for the computers that often act as extensions of ourselves, memory plays much the same role. Kanawat Senanan explains how computer memory works. Lesson by Kanawat Senanan

The immortality comment at the end got me thinking: If we uploaded the entirety of a human consciousness onto a digital media, and could then read/write to it, we could always just transfer the data of that person's memories to another storage device to avoid this degradation, though that assumes that people will be alive to do such a job. Archivists such as these would have to stay alive forever as well, which is ultimately impossible.

I know RAM resets when a PC is rebooted. But I also see that some RAM is given back when certain programs are closed, and then still others do not give back memory when closed. What determines which programs hold onto RAM after being closed?

Interesting concept, I wonder if we could be able to create such an elaborately developed magnetic storage device. At the moment, Im still using my clay tablet for mobile storage chuckle
