In the 1960s, the FBI amassed almost 2, 000 documents in an investigation into one of Americas most celebrated minds. The subject of this inquiry was a writer named James Baldwin, one of the best-selling black authors in the world at the time. What made him loom so large in the imaginations of both the public and the authorities? Christina Greer explores the life and works of James Baldwin. Lesson by Christina Greer, directed by Jrmie Balais and Jeffig Le Bars

The presentation is great but the content was disappointingly superficial to me. Aside from the fact that the FBI kept so many tabs on him, you've made him sound like just about any (non-violent) civil-rights hero/writer; whereas I believe he stood out big time as an intellectual! (Showing later Reagan-supporter and NRA-president Charlton Heston while saying white's were willing to hear was not exactly promoting Baldwin's eloquence much either.
I was almost jumping out of my socks when I saw Ted-Ed did something on Baldwin. You've made so many brief in-depth analysis's of relatively unknown or completely misunderstood historical figures that we're spot on and stimulated further reading.
You could've done a lot better here though. Please keep focusing on the subject's actual work rather then promoting his/her heroism.

If theres one book I recommend to anyone -regardless of topic being discussed- it is The Fire Next Time. I have never read a book so moving yet so simple to understand. Ive never teared up reading a book, but this one did to me. I read it in one sitting on a Sunday from the time the coffee shop opened til its doors closed for the day. Please guys, read it, this book will bring so much clarity in times like these!

Thank you so much for posting such a great video. Today after listening to 1A on NPR this morning I purchased James Baldwin Complete Essays following recommendation from guests at the show. Then I saw this great TED animation video that should be re-shared now more than ever. Thank you TED Ed!

Nice animation, but this is a very surface level history lesson. The title (the world according to ) suggest an explanation of his ideas. Anyone have another good video on it? I'm very close to reading one of his books, but i am not sure i want to commit yet.

I only just started reading and learning about James Baldwin, and his voice is absolutely arresting. Before now I had never heard his name. Not in English classes, not by other people. How can that be?

So many great African Americans, I love they way he articulated the struggle. He life and works still making a difference we should continue to spread his message.

I don't think he would be accepted today. He was too nuanced and intellectual and I think he also believed in salvaging the essentials of the American project.

This is by far the most captivating animation that I've seen on a TED-ED video. I'd love to watch an entire movie animated like this about his life!
