Dig into the tale of Princess Savitri and her one true love, Satyavan, and the tragic prophecy that entwined their fates forever. Princess Savitri was benevolent, brilliant, and bright. Her grace was known throughout the land, and many princes and merchants flocked to her family s palace to seek her hand in marriage. But upon witnessing her blinding splendor in person, the men lost their nerve. Unimpressed with these suitors, she determined to find a husband herself. Iseult Gillespie tells the tale of Savitri and Satyavan. Harsha: I just love how much the story of Sati Savitri(Sati meaning Devoted to Husband) is famous in India. My mom used to tell me this before sleeping and she still does sometimes. We just love our Folklore.

This is one of the best stories from Hindu traditions which signifies the nature of husband-wife relation in Hinduism.
It shows that wife is not weak, helpless and a liability on her husband. But she is strong and a shield to him. Her strength doesn't comes from power of muscles but from power of love.
Love, which transcends the materiality of physical pleasures and intertwines the fate and soul of lover and beloved, has power to defeat even inevitable fate and could force even god of death to kneel.

Lovely animations, Thank you Ted for your efforts to introduce these to the foreign world. Next time when you make a video on Hinduism, I would recommend the tragedy of Sati and Shiva or the life of the Pandavas and Draupadi.

What can you do when every cell of your body is being bombarded with adrenaline, dopamine, and progesterone. It's way too painful. How do I calm this restless heart of mine?

Talk about Hwang-ok who travelled from Tamil Nadu to south Korea to marry a Korean king. Because of her, Kim(lastname) who are 6 million korean people are her descendents

the god of death could easily have just said,
_ well your vow's not my problem. _
_if you want the kids you'll just have to break it and marry someone else. _

Thank you Ted Ed for making this beautiful epic love and sacrifice hindu tale. It's the basis of Vat savitri vrat ( festival) celebrated across India.

I hope to see the day when tales from Ramayana and Mahabharata are covered by ted-ed in the same fashion as the tales of Hercules, and Norse gods
