Sidekicks really can enhance the story in a very subtle yet impactful way. Because they are not the main character, they usually don't have that big of a 'pressure' to carry the plot ahead. They can develop more freely. This is why they can be used by the writer to add that spice, in this case the comedic relief. If used correctly, they can prove to be very vital.

The theory they are presenting is well understood, but the examples and the presentation itself are so bad that it isn't even comedically bad. It's like a robot tried to explain comedy. Did a robot write this?
