I actually faired very well as a legionnaire. I was able to get out early, got elected to pontiff maximus, later I was elected to consul fulfilling my life long dream. I was loved by the people for all I accomplished on their behalf and hated by some of the no account senators because of jealousy (weak men) but a stroke of luck and some slick political manuvering got me appointed governor of 2 provinces and commander of 4 legions.
I would use my own fortune to raise up another 8 and legions payed by me and completely loyal to me as well. We would go on to conquer all of Gaul and even travel to the magical (at least we thought it was at the time) island of the Brits. When that was over I was elected to consul again before those traitors killed me at work one day.
Conspiracy theories are a undeniable truth to reality and I got 23 stab wounds to prove it. All and I would say that I faired very well in the Roman army.

simple concept basic logic if life is not free why the hell would death be any cheaper it's not. So the question one may wonder is the spiritual cost to one's own soul and spirit for having lived and died to the lowest standards of quality for so many years now global pollution has diminished the quality of life to the point where today's people are living, dying and yielding the worst spiritual kickback that has ever been manifested since the beginning of life only getting worse. The polar opposite extreme to that is today's people should be living and dying to the highest standards of quality which would make each and every moment physically, mentally, financially and spiritually beneficial. Pilams were made to bend so that they could disarm shields. The soft metal used (copper or bronze) would penetrate the shield, then bend under the weight of the wooden shaft. Thus, lodging it in the enemies shield, making it useless.
They definitely were not designed to bend upon impact so as to be useless to the enemy. Seriously, think about it. If the spear was soft & bent easily, an enemy could just step on the bend & straighten the spear in seconds. It was purely a disarming method for shields, & could obviously do damage to personnel as well.

4: 30 mark is my Roman Legion group, Legion III Cyrenaica, based in New England US. (I'm on the left in the brass helmet) That photo is from around 2005 but had become surprisingly widely used over the years. You're welcome. :D. Also: thanks for doing some of your homework and research and not falling into the trope misinformation trap. Some of the stuff is more modernism and factoid, but for the most part, not bad.

4: 12 - The boss _(iron knob)_ _could_ be used for bashing but its primary purpose was to strengthen the shield and cover a hole that the front of your hand would fit through so the grip could be close enough to keep the weight of the shield centered _(without the boss-hole the grip could be too far back and a shield would be extremely off-balance and unwieldy. _

How much revisionism do you place in these videos from what is true fact and history? With your b. s. BCE instead of BC, you clearly fall on the indoctrinated liberal side of life and facts and real history are offensive to your type.

Do correct spelling. The plural of marsh is marshes. Marshs is possessive, not plural. As in the marshs foul-tasting water. And infamous is misused throughout. A tactic that is typically successful is famous, not infamous.

Calling the manipular roman army which conquered Carthage - one of Romes fiersest enemies - and Greece (just to name a few) a loosely assembled group of ragtag volunteers is rather interesting - to say the least.

What was it like, do as you're told, and kill or be killed, what's it like in the modern army, do as you're told, and kill or be killed! Life of a soldier is not that much different! 2021

So essentially what this video tells me is that the US Army shares many similarities with Roman service. Minus being beaten or killed, being unable to marry and unequal pay

Is it me or did civilization in general fell a few steps after the fall of the Roman empire? I would believe the Medieval times were more barbaric then Roman times

I thought there was a newer article that stated most roman soldiers carried sling and stones. Not just specialized auxiliaries. Maybe I'm misremembering

I mean seriously 25 yrs of service!
Crazy, to live a life filled with such emotion and pain.
Job security. Nope, pretty much you'll be dead 95%.

This is a fantastic video. But the only thing I would say is that it hardly shows the brutality and danger of the roman army.
