I read a book by a retired FBI agent who claimed that Hoffman was the lackey of another man who planned the kidnapping. Hoffman had used a home-made ladder before in a burglary in Germany and some of the timber used to build the ladder found at the Lindbergh house came from the attic of a house where Hoffman had lived. The planner had romanced the maid and, posing as a tabloid reporter, had casually asked her about the location of the Lindbergh family. She wasn't a conspirator, only a tool but would have realized that she had been used after the baby disappeared and had killed herself out of guilt. The FBI agent concluded that the kidnappers had entered the room through the window using the ladder, put the baby in a satchel and carried him out asleep. The ladder was found with a broken rung. Lindbergh reported hearing the sound of a crack and then a thud on the night of the kidnapping. It was the FBI agent's belief that the kidnappers had dropped the bag from a height to the ground when the ladder rung broke as they were escaping and that the baby was killed right then and there as they were taking him out the window. They carried on with the ransom demand after dumping the baby's corpse on their route away from the house. They had had to go back to the grave to recover a piece of the child's clothing, which had to be washed before sending it back to the family. When the ransom was paid, the planner took his share and got on a steamer ship back to Europe. He died of appendicitis on the trip to Europe. Hoffman only had a small portion of the ransom money reflecting his limited responsibility. So Hoffman didn't initiate the kidnapping plan but he had taken part in it.

I read that Charles Linenbergh never looked near his child, because the baby was disabled. Someone who actually used to visit him, stated that he would throw cushions at the child, when it managed to get up off the ground and toddled over in his direction - basically child abuse! he would throw cushions until the poor boy thumped down on his diaper and stopped trying to get over to his father! His father would laugh at this in front of this other person, and he would laugh about it too, but afterwards, on thinking back, he stated it was really disturbing. Charles was also seen with the now infamous ladder in his car BEFORE the kidnapping. It is believed that he wanted rid of his disabled child!
I find it laughable that they are trying to trace the ladder to a source. It could have changed hands a hundred times!

Hauptmann was a German immigrant fleeing from prison. He had an accomplice and managed to escape prison hop on a ship to America. He was cleared by Immigration even though he had a criminal record. I guess they weren't so stringent back then. Now what's even more interesting the crime he was convicted for back in Germany was using a ladder to gain access to a home where he burgled the mayors residence. He was a shrewd crim not shy in using a gun to get his victims to comply. Many people probably aren't familiar with his criminal background. Now i mention this because i wonder if Lindberg knew of him having spent much time in Germany the time? Its very unlikely but im just throwing it out there.

I seen a video on In Search of about the Lindburgh baby kidnapping. No way in hell was it Hautman. There was a handwriting expert that was kicked out of court because she said
the ranson letter did not match a sample given by Hautman. And the she witnessed people making the letter in Hautman sample look more like the actual ranson letter by changing the shapes of certain letters. I have also heard that Charles Lindburgh used to kick little Charles too the ground when he was walking and making fun of his own baby disibility. No doubt in my mind that the father played a huge role in that babys death.

Lindbergh once swapped water in a jug for gasoline and his friend almost died from the prank.
He was also reportedly very jealous of the attention his son received over himself.
To drive up in a loud automobile, place a ladder, open the window and take a baby without being heard? Impossible.
The baby didn't cry. because it wasn't afraid of his father who I believe killed the boy that night.
The man accused was a patsy, set up and the FBI botched the investigation as they frequently still do.

Great work and great video. It probably was an inside job. Sadly forensics, dna, and police sophistication was very low in that era and the family was so famous they feared antagonizing the public or the prestigious. This is when police work goes bad. They really must solve very publicized cases. That's why I love serial killers. They are thoroughly investigated to find the one responsible. It's not about status, race or publicity. They want the right guy for the crime.

Lindbergh was a Nazi sympathizer, eugenics believing, sadistic bully, who would routinely emotionally terrorize friends and his wife Anne Morrow. Just a terrible human being. He entered into 2 bigamous marriages while still married to Anne and fathered other children by the other wives. He was a terrible human being undeserving of any respect. If you want to learn more, I recommend the book Suspect No. 1: The Man Who Got Away by Lise Pearlman.

The Lindbergh Baby case and the Jonbenet Ramsey case have similar energy.
Strange how this case was never really solved. You wouldn't think it would be possible for someone to kidnap the baby of the most famous man in the west at the time, and simply get away with it. Even if the Lindberghs themselves did it, you'd think it would come to light. The fact that to this day NO ONE was ever really pinned down with 100% certainty, is just so odd.

He sure sounds like psychopath. that type humor is standard with subhumans. I understand he was Nazi at heart. Psychos love fascicsm He received an award or something from Goering. Eugenics. Not only Jews but Germans were victims of this policy. I understand there was something wrong with the boy. In Lindbergh mind the boy would be inferior. Did he lose it accidentally? Charles extending the stay gives me reason to question.

Experienced prosecutors will tell you there was redflag after redflag about the father. Fact is the investigation controlled by Lindbergh himself was a disgrace and so was the Hauptmann trial. More than six decades later John Benett Ramsey, the father of JonBenet, mentioned this case in a TV interview mocking people who believe that Charles Lindbergh was responsible for the death of his son.

Charles Lindbergh was a Nazi sympathizer and a believer in eugenics. The baby was born with health problems. He had rickets and probably intellectual disabilities. The nanny said she heard Lindbergh call the baby a dud. We all know what the Nazis did to disabled children. Lindbergh had several families and I don't know how many children. He was not normal.

Lindbergh was a Eugenicist!
The baby was handicapped and had rickets.
Lindbergh did not want a child who wasn't perfect physically and mentally!
He refused to allow the FBI to investigate and ran the case himself!
This is a case that needs to be investigated with all the update technology we have today!

The kid was the victim of a joke gone wrong, so the whole thing had to be covered up, and the blame put on someone else. Lindbergh was famous, stinky rich, and had powerful political friends. He couldn't appear before the world as an asshole clown. Money can buy anything, even police and judges.

Eugenics! He lost his child! He was a great speaker for The America First. He was against the American forces entering WW2. It's more probable that the child was snuffed out to shut him up.
Possible connection could be the JDL.

Is there a possibility you could do a documentary on Thomas Pendergast whose wife and four children were murdered on December 8, 1958 by Carl Eder, a 16-year-old hitchhiker? I would appreciate your efforts.

I think Lindberg did it by mistake when he was 'pranking' 'lets hide the baby. Who hides a baby for fun? I think the Mrs. should have taken the baby home to her parents. Just saying.

Lindbergh was mega-weird; I think he planned and supervised the kidnapping and by controlling the investigation kept pertinent evidence from becoming known.

He did it. Sympathies to his wife, and, even more so, the family of Richard Bruno Hauptmann. His legendary status should be STRUCK from all history books/records!
